I am not well-educated on New York nightlife. However, I am well-traveled and have to say that of all the hidden gems I've visited from Florence to Sydney or California to Soho - Campbell Apartment is one of my favorites. There is a dress code, and sometimes the service is slow, but the people watching and the over all atmostphere is delightful. AND, I've never had a better dirty martini!

Visit on 3/11. Place was half empty, but the waitress insisted on seating us on the cheap seats. Restrooms scanky like a freeway service area.

After visiting New York and all its sights last week, one of my favourite places was the Campbell Apt,atmosphere was amazing and better still was the service and cocktails they served. Try a candied apple martini,to die for......

I love, love, love the Campbell Apartment. The decor is just fabulous, the staff is exceptionally courteous, and the bartender makes many excellent drinks. Not only are these classic cocktails fantastic, the hostess does a wonderful job of pouring and presenting them. I did not discover this place until after I left New York, which makes me very sad. But I would detour my travels to Grand Central any time just so I could have a drink here. In short, whether you are on a date, conducting an informal business meeting, or simply passing through New York, you will love your time at the Campbell Apartment.

Smilelots needs to smile more ! This is a cool spot and a New York landmark besides. The restoration is very well done and there are few signs of the MTA having used it as a storage room prior to its current incarnation. The cubic volume of the space is consistent with the grandeur of GCT and the details on walls and ceiling give you a glimpse of what it might have been like to be John Campbell (if you need more check out his safe in the fireplace). The potions are great if pricey and it's a 5 min walk to your train home. Event Planner Tip: If you have a group call ahead and make a reservation.

If you go after work on a weeknight, it is absolutely true that the place is packed to the gills with horrible young associate fratty types. If, however, you go for an early weekend drink or a late night stop in, it is the stuff of fantasy. The drinks are delicious & storng (especially the Robber Baron), if expensive. Go with a budget, stay for one or two. It's so very old New York & worth every penny.

Half-decent drinks, terrible crowd, way too crowded, and service with an attitude. My friends and I will never return.

Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
