I've taken several people to Chumley's over the years and it is always fun to see their faces when you just walk through the unmarked door in this residential neighborhood. The food in great, the beer is awesome. It can be crowded, but always a fun group of people. I'm taking an unsuspecting friend there tonight..............

Making our third trip to NYC in under five years, it has been a long time ambition to visit this legendary bar. Finally, this time, we found the time to go and it did not disappoint. We did, in fact, find it first time and went in through the main entrance with anticipation. We ordered some beer and cider for our mixed party and turned to look for somewhere to sit. It was crowded, but not heaving and after a moment's hesitation, we were guided to an empty table at the rear by the helpful table-wait. We would have loved to take one of the booths at the front, but we were not eating, so it was only fair to leave them for diners. The sense of history was palpable as we sat sipping the superb beers and taking in all the wall decorations and tributes to the 9/11 firefighters. After an hour or so, we had to move on reluctantly, but this will be an early port of call next time round, very soon I hope!

i was told about Chumleys by a guitar shop owner in the village. he said `oh! yourenglish you will need a drink before eating. Go to Chumleys but dont miss the door". I did miss it twice. Finally open the door. Is this someones front hall? where do I go? ah! theres a sound. up the stairs and into the bar. Wow! great ambiance and really good beer, try the bulldog itwill l bite your bum in the nicest possible way. I have told so many newyorkers about this place. just hope too many dont find it so there is space when I go again. next week in fact. Cheers.
