Everyone in front of me got into the bar with no problem and everyone behind me got in with no problem. I approached the bouncer completely sober. I was wearing skinny jeans, boots, button down shirt and suspenders. Of course I am the one that needs to know someone to get in and since I didnt know anyone, I didnt get in. Everyone behind me got in with no problem. I am a black gay male and I find the place to be particularly revolting but I was out with my straight friends so I was trying to just have a good time with them. This establishment has proven its ignorance and absolute bigotry time and time again. I attribute it to poor management resulting in equally poor hiring and subsequent training. The drink deals are great once you are inside but this place is truly terrible and I think at some point they deserve a taste of their own medicine.

never go to this dive bar. they continue to be racist. i've been 12-15 times in the last 3yrs. once black customers approach, they quickly tell you there is a "dress code" and you cannot get in. mind you, this is a dive bar; not some sleek sexy nightclub. a damn dive bar. since when do dive bars have dress codes? they even told me one night, i couldnt get in because of a dress code, and thats when I was wearing a shirt and tie! they are RACIST. the asian manager/owner stands directly outside and tells minorities they cannot get in. meanwhile, several (white) customers inside have ripped shorts, flip flops, hoodies and torn t-shirts inside. BOYCOTT THIS ESTABLISHMENT---the acts as RACISTS!!!

Continental Bar is a racist establishment. I am pursuing legal actions. Please do not support this discrimatory agent of inequality.

Crowd can be a little creepy at times but you can't beat the price of drinks! Avoid mixed drinks and shots because the liquor is definitely watered down -- that's probably how they get it to be so cheap! Stick to bottled beers.

We liked hanging out there. Went during happy hour and got some really cheap drinks.

Stumbled across this bar last time I was in NYC. Decent prices for drinks. Nothing too flashy. I was reading all the comments about it being a "racist" and "homophobic" bar but I didn't see anything like that. There were black people in there along with other races and everything was fine. I will definitely go back next time I am in town.

I liked this bar. Visited NYC with a couple friends. Went in during happy hour and got $1 beers. Did 5 shots of Jack Daniels for $10 bucks but the shots were small and weak. Planning on going back.

To begin with, this is not some exclusive, "celebrity only", semi-private lounge that requires a password to get in. Instead, it is the quintessential idea of a DIVE BAR. Nasty, stinky, dont wanna touch anything, DIVE. So when I went with a few co-workers (mixed races) one evening I was surprised that the black security guards refused to let in all the guys with hoodies on. Curiously enough, all the guys with hoodies also happened to be black and dressed exactly like the bodyguard who denied their entry. As we stood there, trying to negotiate the entry of the whole group, I couln't help but notice the half-dozen white guys lining the bar, all wearing hoodies, torn jeans and flip flops. They must have slipped right by security.....No? HELL NO, I will never go back! BOYCOTT INSTEAD!
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
