Even when the place is packed, it's always easy to get a beer and place a take-out order. Afternoons are the best, dark and mellow like a tavern should be. A great burger has to outlast the bun, and these do it every time, never having a bad one. Customers and staff are among the most polite I've come across. Recommend to all my friends to go there at least once when they go into the city.

CB has been a staple for villagers for years and years, and myself being relatively new to the area, had to try it. Despite all the hype (which was enormous) the place lived up to about 90% of it's hype. The portions were small, but with beer on tap starting at $2.50, you're bound to order more than one burger anyways.

Have been here many times and the Bistro Burger is the best burger in New York. The atmostphere at Corner Bistro is laid back / divey with an eccletic crowd. The line is occaisonally long, but the wait goes by quickly especially with a McSorley's or two. Definitely a great spot to get away from pricey NY meals.

After many wonderful and satisfying burger experiences over the years at the Bistro my last was a major league disappointment. The burger was dry and relatively tasteless - something has changed. I sat with another patron who I met waiting for a table, sharing for a quick lunch. He'd had the same experience on his last two visits and had "moved on" instead to the grilled cheese. I inquired with the bartender if they'd made any adjustments to their ingredients. He responded, of course, that they've been using same beef for 30 years. Whither the legendary Bistro burger? I think I'll continue my trips to Broome Street Bar and Burger Joint instead. : - (

I have been to Corner Bistro a few times, but my visit last week was by far my most enjoyable. I strolled in on a beautiful spring day at around 12 noon and there was plenty of space for me to sit. I quickly ordered a cheeseburger and a Bloody Mary from the attentive and jolly bartender. The burger was enormous and tasty, if not a bit messy. The Bloody Mary was a bit heavy on the horseradish, but otherwise passable. For 20 bucks I got a cheeseburger, Bloody Mary and a McSorley's. For me though, the real draw are the regulars who sit at the end of the bar. Listening to their conversations and opinions is what makes a place like this so great . If there was one thing I would change would be the stools at the bar. They are just a bit too low, making eating at the bar a bit awkward. A must visit for any New Yorker.

I finally tried this popular West Village spot after reading rave reviews in this very magazine. I wasn't disappointed. The burgers are among the best (and cheapest) in the city, even if they overcook the bacon for my taste. But where else in Manhattan can you find draft beer for $2.50? They play a nice mix of late 50s R'n'B and Be-Bop with the occasional Stones track thrown in, and there are three TV screens showing three different sporting events, all of which keeps you entertained enough as you queue for a table. Last night I went back with my girlfriend and we sat at the bar, where such aforementioned pleasures combined to the point where I almost achieved a blissful sensory overload. Burger heaven.

Dined on 12/26/05 at 4:45PM Though relatively cheap, two burgers, w/cheese & bacon, arrived luke warm at best on a room temperature Walmart bun; ordered medium rare but on rare, cold side. Tasted OK but not juicy. Bacon was thick and tasty. Cheese mere American slice. Fries thin, ok, but of frozen variety; Heinz Ketchup watered down; Cola served in a glass mug with too much ice and little cola. Two bacon cheeseburgers w/lettuce, tomato & 3 sweet canned pickle slices, two fries & one cola billed at $20.50 incl. tax [not incl. tip].

Best thing about the Corner Bistro is the intelligence of the afternoon patrons and two main bartenders. Lively and fascinating conversation abounds from older people, who leave when the tunnel and bridge crowd comes in, about 6 pm. There is also a great selection of blues and jazz as background music.

A crazy atmosphere for new customers. Gotta love the cheap beer and great burgers. The fries are so-so. Be prepared to do the Corner Bistro "shuffle" down the bar until you get served. You might be a tad bit drunk by the time your food arrives. Nothing wrong with that on a weekend evening!

Can't say where's the beef here but what is the big deal. Decor is dive and so is the way they give you the food. eating from paper plates was a turn off. My friends love it though....
