A friend and I didn't want to wait at Delicatessen last Thursday, so we walked to Elizabeth. Impressive, comfortable front room/bar, gracious hosts. Lovely patio was full, so we sat down in the middle room, whose walls are described as covered in poker felt. And that's all. This is obviously the budget-compromised section of the design plan -- a boring, underlit box of blue-green. It simply doesn't fit, so you feel like you ended up in 3rd class, aka the banquet room. Fine...we're hungry, and we haven't seen each other in a while. Our waiter was really bad and awkwardly signed off with "cheers" upon withdrawal from his several interruptions. Then the music doubled in volume, but was quickly restored to a sane level, upon request, by the friendly host. I had the lobster ravioli in corn broth which was very tasty... and tiny. LIkewise with my friend's skate. Summed up: great for drinks in the front and small entrees in the back. I'd go back with adjusted expectations, but would politely ask for a different waiter if I saw the same one we had.

First let me say I loved the decor. The room has a great feel. It almost seems like an exotic vampire bar. If you go just to drink, go ahead. But, this is New York and you can drink anyplace. I went to eat. The food was really tasty, but the portions were so small, everyone in my party of five were still hungry. I weigh less than 120 pounds and the food was just not enough. I was one 5'3" woman with three hungry guys. In their defense, the head waiter did offer to give us more food but by then, I was done. "A hungry man is an angry man."
