A group of friends and I went there for brunch and found ourselves amongst the worst assortment of individuals in Manhattan---Actually I'll extend that to all of New York. I've always heard about these people....you know, the type who buy LV earmuffs and uggs for their stuffed animal dog. The Essex is their home den. It was so loud we could barely have a conversation except to comment on how ridiculous the environment was and we received horrible service from an aspiring model with a bad attitude. She made it very clear that it was I who should be grateful that she had the time of day to take my order. The reason I gave it a 3 instead of a 0 was for the food. The food was great. But not 100th of what it needs to be for me to ever step in there again.

Sunday Brunch @ Essex Restaurant is a New York Happening. For only $16 you get a complete brunch with many exotic items like Mexican Matza Brey and 3 FREE DRINKS. It is by far the best brunch in New York City and certainly the price is not matched anywhere...

Some of the worst service I have ever received. We had a 9pm reservation for a private party space. Despite showing up promptly at 9pm, having put our credit card down for the reservation, and having received a confirmation call about the space the day before, Essex had no space available for our party. The space we had reserved was not clear until over 2 hrs later. In dealing with the issue, Essex was unapologetic, rude and obnoxious. NOT RECOMMENDED!

Unlike your typical Essex girl, Essex bar is neither cheap nor easy. My $10 cubano sandwich amounted to a cluster of finger food. Odd menu in general, and not in a "ooh, how unusual" way. The staff seemed easily-distracted: we waited half an hour for our waitress to come back for our check - eventually we got up and paid at the bar. I would've left without paying - after all, I'm never going back. Nice sangria, though.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
