I recently went to Gaslight, a long-time favorite bar and my new favorite pizza place, in the Meatpacking District where I work and noticed some changes. For one, the Chef mentioned that soon they would have outdoor seating! I’m assuming this will go along with a really nice looking (and healthy) new menu and wine list. The menu is pretty classy for a pizzeria. So far I have tried the salmon crudo with cream and avocado on cranberry toast for an appetizer- unbelievable! Another item that looked (haven’t tried yet) healthy and awesome is the pan-seared tuna appetizer. My other favorite is a classic Italian summer salad called Panzanella. It’s basically just a big bread bowl with cucumber and tomato inside, but its so delicious and so refreshing. Since I’ve been coming here quite a bit, I also picked up their rewards card, which gives you a free entrée after so many punches, a nice touch for the regulars.

Gaslight and G2 are great places. A ton of fun, great crowd, fun bartenders and really good prices. I go back all the time and have recommended it to lots of friends who all love both bars. The meatpacking district is made "real" by Gaslight and G2.

We ended up at Gaslight on a Friday night and it was extremely packed to the point where it was hard to get a drink or to move around even. I wasn't that impressed with it. However, the next night we ended up there for a couple of cocktails earlier in the evening and having seen it without so many people, the decor was actually quite nice and inviting. The service was friendly and the fireplaces made it nice to sit beside after being caught in the rain. I would recommend going there at the start of the evening and not at the end.

Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
