It's "Fraturday" every day at Gatsby's. This bar attracts the absolute worst crowd of jocks and chubby and drunk older men trying to relive their fraternity days. Even walking past this place is a nightmare, seeing as you must avoid the sweaty, drunk and angry patrons who congregate outside the bar, urinating and even vomiting into the street. Is there some kind of issue with the restroom? Or is there something in the beer that causes these men to regress to their pre-potty-trained days? Fights break out regularly between the regulars after their 20th beer, usually continuing down the street and loud enough to wake any neighbor at 4 in the morning. I have even seen a sleazy 40-something-year-old man leaving the doors of Gatsby's with a completely drunk (on the verge of puking) 20 year old, holding her up so that she could walk while his buddies gave him the thumbs up as if he had "scored". It should be shut down.

as a nyc law student, i have very limited time to be spending in bars/clubs across manhattan. luckily for me, my first weekend of school i stumbled into gatbsys and have gone back every weekend since. the bouncer is a sweetheart, the bartenders are efficient, the people aren't pretentious and the music is fantastic. it's definitely a just-barely-post-college scene, but hey, that's who i am and who i want to hang out with when i'm done learning about contracts!

In this pleasant and mostly quiet neighborhood few places refuse to comply and completely ruin the vibe. Gatsby's is one of them. The name is an insult, Fitzgerald would be rolling over in his grave. Rude bouncers, loud drunk people on the street, and regular bar fights. This place belongs in time square, not residential SOHO. Very boring inside and corporate. Go to the meatpacking district if you want this experience. Bridge and tunnel crowd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I mean the New Jersey Long Island kind.

Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
