No Happy Valley Here

After witnessing the blatant racism at this place on 11/19/2005, I wouldn't recommend any person of color to patronize it. There were two lines at the door-one white and one Black. It was disgusting to see how all the African Americans were left standing outside waiting to get in to the the Columbia University business school student association party which was reserved that night as well as the other parties. We were told that the only people getting inside were reserved for bottle service only which was a blatant lie. I had no deisre to go inside after this mistreatment.

Separate But NOT Equal

On 11/19/05 Happy Valley showed that racial discrimination is alive and well in 2005. The venue was to host a party sponsored by the Columbia Business School Black Business Student Association (BSSA). There were two lines- one closer to Madison Avenue that was comprised predominantly of Black people and one closer to 5th Avenue composed almost entirely of white people. I arrived approximately 11:30 PM and watched as the line of Black guests grew while multiple Caucasian guests were let into the club without question. When specifically asked why the line closer to 5th avenue (all white partygoers) was being allowed in while the line of Black partygoers was not, the response was ‘this is a hot club and entrance is at the doorman’s discretion’. The door people then stated that it was bottle service only with a 2 bottle minimum and demanded that valid ID and credit cards be shown. NONE of the Caucasian partygoers were asked to show ID or a credit card prior to entering the club. Please note that I am NOT affiliated with the Columbia Business School or the BSSA but was a potential partygoer who was offended and appalled by what occurred.
