great bartenders, good drinks, fun music and kitschy ambience - most fun i have had in awhile on a night out. the dancefloor was packed, no one was pretentious or snooty and the taxidermy is not too in-your-face. it's not going to become a regular hangout of mine, but i had a great time while there. good for a fun, laid back night.

I've been going to HSH fairly regularly for about six months now and have yet to be disappointed- generally fun, unpretentious crowd and a fun place to let loose and dance. It does get crowded at moments, but never so badly that it is impossible to move. One of my favorite spots in lower Manhattan!

This was by far my worst bar experience having lived in nyc my whole life! I am not one to write reviews, this is my first in fact but this place was so awful i cannot let last nights experience go untold. The bouncers were extremely abusive to their customers as well as kept us waiting in the cold just to show off how macho they are. Once we entered the place was so over crowded, its just a matter of time before the fire department shuts them down. They must of packed the place at 2x maximum legal capacity. Drinks were VERY WEAK and served in PLASTIC CUPS!! The restrooms look like they have not been cleaned in months. Because of the overcrowd it was impossible to walk 2 steps without getting my drink knocked over. Avoid this place at ALL COSTS!!

Disagree with the critic above. I loved it! I was on my way to another bar on Chrystie to try to find a place to hold my birthday party and I stumbled upon this bar. No sign, just 3 chandeliers hanging above stairs that lead you down to the entrance. I was immediately drawn to this "Secret Bar-sh" feature. I went on a Saturday night at around 12:30 and it wasn't crowded at all (but not to a point where you feel like the place is completely dead) which made me happy, I don't know about everyone else but I definately don't like squeezing in and out of people just to move one inch. The space is large, filled with old vintage couches (comfy too). The DJ played an awesome mix of Rock, supposedly they play more electronic/dance music on Fridays.
