  • No, I would not go back!

My boyfriend and I are local but decided to get away for a night for our birthdays. We booked the Hotel Williamsburg because we wanted to stay someplace nice, and the buzz around the place seemed like it could be a fun detour from the normal hotel experience. I knew the "hipster" reputation, and hey - you're in Williamsburg, right off McCarren Park - so what do you expect. The lobby is nice, with assorted seating and a full bar next to the reception desk. The fellow behind the desk was nice enough, and we were given our room. What was strange was, and I've never seen this in another hotel, that two rooms were located behind a common door at the end of the hallway - say rooms 511 and 512 were accessible through one door, and then another. Even though you need a key card for entry, it was a little weird. The room was an okay size for NY - not much to write home about. The decor was "hip", with a record player and plenty of "Made in Brooklyn" goodies. The minibar was not fully stocked, as if the people who stayed before us had decimated it and nothing was replaced. The bathrooms are spacious, though we had barely any hot water - the showers were tepid, at best. TV worked half the time. Beds were comfortable. I feel "meh" about the whole experience. I was also overcharged by the hotel on my credit card, so I'm hoping to get that worked out as soon as possible. For what I paid, the hotel isn't worth it. It's really (as most things in hipster-land) all about empty hype.
