I am a regular at Lounge 47 and stop by most evenings after work for a quiet glass of wine. I simply cannot understand the negative comments that have been left. The bar and wait staff are always cheerful and courteous, the Irish owners would not have it any other way. They had a lovely garden which has now been closed due to a politically connected neighbor who has harrassed them for years by calling police repeatedly and being totally unreasonable despite their attempts to appease him. Oh and he built the ugliest extension on his house I've ever seen outside of the old Iron curtain countries housing projects. Seems the noise, smoke and pollution from the trucks, cars & buses on Vernon Blvd. doesn't bother him as much as people trying to make a living. Or if they do I guess we'll all be using 11th street. Patrick

Service is downright questionable. I went to brunch today with a colleague from Europe. Our original server was the tall guy with short hair and an earring. The menus offered a "pre fixe" brunch, their wording. I didn't want the included coffee, nor did I want to drink alcohol. I politely asked the server if I could order "a la carte" rather than "pre fixe." He said, "I don't know what you're talking about, this is America. We don't use those words here." I though he was joking, maybe he noticed some of us had accents and he was kidding us? Turns out, he wasn't. He was offended by the un-American language of his own menu, and, I guess, by the fact we weren't all-American. Maybe he was just in a bad mood, maybe he's been short-changed on tips by Euro customers, I don't know, but he was impressively rude, and that's unacceptable to me. The waitress on duty, who quickly took over, was kind and friendly, and never questioned our patriotism, even when my friend ordered mayonnaise for his fries!

After walking through the nice interior, we sat in the garden. We ordered the $6 margarita specials, and some burgers. After waiting a full hour, we received both burgers cold, with one order entirely wrong. At this point we complained, but ate what was in front of us in hopes of getting out of there ASAP. THEN -- we get the bill. We were charged for a side order of something we didn't order and over-charged for two items. We brought this to their attention and the extra charge and one margarita was taken off the bill. However, the burgers and the margaritas were still priced wrong. We complained again, so the bill as adjusted but then included the margarita he had initially removed. The customer service practices at Lounge 47 are simply horrendous. We expect more. It was wrong the way they handled the situation and as a paying customer, I'm happy to bring my business elsewhere. We wanted to like this quaint cozy quirky joint, but the service just wasn't up to par. We enjoy the laid back atmosphere of LIC, but LIC has to remember we're still New Yorkers.
