I went to Max Fish on a Saturday night, and I have never been more BORED. That's not to say it wasn't packed-- it was... with some of the most dull, nose-in-the-air hipster waifs I've seen in my day (and I'm only 22 so that's pretty bad). I'm the type who likes to meet people and make friends in a bar, especially one with the aesthetic of being divey and fun-casual, but most of the people who were there seemed really proud of themselves for it. I don't doubt Max Fish is a cool place on occasion (like NOT a trendy Saturday), but aforementioned clientele need to grow some personalities, FAST. Drinks were cheap enough and the decor was kinda rad, but I vote for establishing a pretense limit that can't be exceeded or you get chucked out. Wouldn't that solve everything?

if you are looking to hang around, play pool or enjoy the crowd of hippies/funk punks/gays/ guys with tattoos/piercings, that is the place to go....it is a hot spot, and usually pretty crowded at the weekends. usually hard to find a seat in the bar.

Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
