Our favorite part was the 1980s French Porno playing on the flat screen. Be on the lookout...the only sign is a sheet of paper with clip art saying 'Mehanata'. The music is a mix of indie, latina and middle eastern all with a pop foundation- making for an interesting initial crowd and rythme...one person was actually doing jumping jacks. The speckled lights pulsate to the beat the DJ throws up. Later in the evening a less vagabond crowd trickles in. Mehanata is the IDEAL location for any individual on hallucinogens or looking to escape the monotonus club scene. Axe would do well to hand out samples to anyone paying the overpriced $10 cover....Not a place for first timers to the big apple but if your looking for a good laugh and willing to party outside the box you'll end up having a brilliant time.

The live shows are cheap and intimate and the performers often stay and party. The atmosphere there is rowdy, frenzied and often sexual, but respectful unlike many clubs. The music is great. It is hot and humid and on Saturdays there is the L.E.S. requisite crowd of fraternity types, but good for them that they're expanding their musical horizons. Wear closed toed shoes.

If it were not for the DJ (Joro), I would never consider going back. This guy plays an eclectic mix of music, and the party takes off. Girls are hot (and drunk ) too!
