Sports Bar Veteran Says: Total Disaster
By Rgreene17 on 10/17/2011
Tried to get into this place on Sunday for a game - made a reservation , and was told I would get a table @ 4pm. I understand that the transition between the games can be tough (with the 1pm crowd leaving and the 4pm crowd arriving) but I thought the whole situation was managed poorly. We stood there for about 30 (4:30 at this point) minutes, and asked repeatedly when we might be seated. There were a number of people just lingering around - maybe settling a bill or something - but what was a group of 10 people, were taking up 4+ tables...think 1-2 people sitting in a chair at a table while their friend paid the tab. Regardless, despite the fact that there seemed like a number of open spots, the overwhelmed waitress wouldn't consolidate the crowd (which is pretty typical on football sundays, IMO). Finally, we were seated, when the manager (you know the type, kind of beefy, scruffy, not bright, and pretty rude) told us that we needed to get up because they needed to clean up (fine) but that we would be seated "shortly." Immediately after this, they took our table (positioned for the game we wanted), for another, larger group. At this point we just left and went to Reade St. Pub a block over. Overall way better service and more relaxed crowd. I'm sure the food is fine and everything, but there are a million sports bars in NYC, and paying money to be treated shabbily is not my thing. I live in Tribeca, and refuse to go back here again.
