Fun, quirky little dive

I've seen bands there, and I've played in bands there a few times. At least the times that I've been there, the bartenders have not been drunk. I like the kitschy Tiki decor and overall anachronistic feel of the place. Drinks are cheaper than they are at other dives on the East Side that cater to the kinds of acts you'll see here, and that's always a good thing. The performance space is, shall we say, "cozy", but I've always had fun playing there.

Only if you like bumper cars and mosh pits

Things have to be really good, or really bad, for me to write a review. This will fall into the latter category. Went there for a friend's birthday party not expecting too much, but certainly not this: Bartender was rude, surly and otherwise completely unfriendly. But this one goes out to the barback, who seemed to be channeling both Capt. Lou Albano's look and ringside demeanor. As we stood in front of, but not completely blocking, the bar he proceeded to plow through the crowd without a single "excuse me," "coming through" or tap on the back. Instead he'd just knock everyone out of the way, even the ladies. While not exactly busy, Sir Bumps-a-Lot rushed from front to back all night, playing his game of human bowling all along the way. Thanks, but I get my fill of that on the subway.

One of the few remaining Free band venues

Divey Fun Tiki Bar with a small back room which has punk, garage and rockabilly bands for free almost every night, which is rare these days. Each night is different with rotating Surf Rock, Rockabilly, 60's Soul, Goth and Indie events and even a cover song night. Decent drink prices and they have a wide range of tiki drinks, with required plastic monkeys, umbrellas and glow sticks.

Horrible Bar

My friends and I stopped in for our first beer at this joint as a kickoff to the night. First of all, the bartender was SO WASTED that she could barely talk. After slurring back our order to us, she pours the wrong drinks. After we clarify what we want....again.... she ID's us and we sit down. After I'm done I go to get another beer and she ID's me again.....then tells me im underage!!! and throws the ID in my face!! (Sidenote: im 23!). After telling her im OF AGE she starts screaming profanities at me and tells me to get the F*** out of her bar. There was no manager and no other bartenders. What I shouldve done was call the police!!!! This place is ATROCIOUS and the most unprofessional dump Ive ever been too.
