COAT CHECK DISASTER

I went to get my coat from coat check, and after 2-3 minutes I was given back my ticket and informed, "I don't have it." You can imagine my surprise to find out my brand new leather jacket has been either a) stolen by an employee or b) given to another patron at the fault of the coat check attendee. I was told to call back in the morning "maybe it will turn up." I wasn't born yesterday, I know I'm never seeing that coat again and it's their responsibility to compensate me. Well, I'd like to say after nearly two weeks I've still not had any one of my ten phone calls to this place returned. Absolutely disgusting for a place of this caliber and such a bad level of customer service. So beware when you check your coat at this joint...

Great weekend pool party

I've spent several weekends this summer at the Gansevoort. The place is crowded and the weekend party is over the top. But what makes the day is their pool boy cocktail server Travis. How this supercutie manages to serve 200 people crowded around the pool, remember all their names and their drinks while smiling and dancing is beyond me. Always great service. Fun fun party.

Our group had 10 girls, and we went to Plunge on a Friday night in June . It was packed, but we managed to find room to create our little circle for dancing right outside on the rooftop! The views were awsome overlooking the river! (who cares if Jersey was across the river?? It doesn't make your view any less appealing!) Not too hot, not too chilly. We had a blast! Of course we were all so excited to be together and to be in NYC celebrating that we probably could have had fun anywhere there was booz & music ! The staff was mostly friendly, not a real issues there. Yes, the cost of drinks is pretty high (This was our experience though ALL over NYC). So, if you are planning a visit to NYC for the first time, just come expecting to pay ALOT for drinks. We planned in advance and had an idea that it would be that way so we saved up for a rockstar weekend.... This bar is in a great location (meatpacking district) so you can bar/club hop all night long by foot.

Admitedly I had high expectations - and you know what happens when you have high expectations...they rarely even come close. Such is the case - OK, I'll give u the great views - but that is about it. $15 for a drink, please - I'm the first person to throw money at something but come on people - and it wasn't even made well. I searched high & low for the 'beautiful & hip", they musta got lost - I saw a lot of dull & cranky. As for cranky, what hotel do you stay at where the doorman doesn't open the door for you.. this one apparently. But they do press a good elevator button - what's up with that. Save your $$, go drink at The Hog Pit, it was a heck of a lot more fun...

Take the Plunge ( but only if you REALLY like views of Jersey)

After reading this magazine's review I was sceptical about this place (it's hard to put a positive spin on the terms "over-priced", "hellishly crowded" or "unbearable"). Arriving on a Friday night I expected to find a sweaty crowd jostling amidst thudding techno, so imagine my surprise to find the bar half-empty and the Pretenders playing. However, I'm sure Chrissie Hynde would have been as outraged as I was when my $16 glass of Champagne arrived in a PLASTIC CHAMPAGNE FLUTE. After which I struggled to take the place seriously. Nice views though.

I stayed at Gansevoort last weekend. Great hotel. Nice attitudes everywhere. We went to Plunge around 7pm for a few drinks before having dinner downstairs in Ono...which was fantastic. (sit upstairs in mezzanine if possible) Drinks were expectedly expensive. View was fantastic. Nice music at a nice level so we could still hold a conversation. Seating was perfect. crowd was not as trendy that early obviously ( but this crowd didn't wait around the corner in line half of the night either). Bartenders were friendly. Glounge down stairs is nice too, although late at night ( when we went) it was obviously crowded. Great service.

This place is one of my favourite bars in Manhattan. Okay, admittedly, on nights when there are more people, service gets a little spotty and it's hard to find a place to sit, but hey, isn't that every club in New York from thursday through saturday?! The space is beautifully designed, the drinks are not at the same price points as dive bar (obviously!) but the selection (I'm a whiskey gal) is pretty good and yes, there are too many try-too-hards there at times, but if you go any night from sunday through thursday, the crowd is very chill, the music is good and the service is less crappy. It's all a matter of timing, people.

I agree with "thebooch" on one thing, skipping the massive line. You should look for the Itailan fellow, Sal, I believe his name is, and tip him heavily in order to skip the line. I went up to a very hot, tall blonde gentleman with a crisp $100 in my hand and said, "I believe I'm on the guest list!", only to be told to wait on the line. I was then thanked for the gesture...but reassured it will be a short wait. Thanks, hot blonde guy but I think I'll try something else. I then went to Sal, who was standing just off to the side and after a quick "handshake", I was let promtly up. While checking my coat I ran into Richard Branson, and I saw a few Knicks players, and celebs up there (Jeremy Piven, was stumbling around with drink in hand). The view was great, the drinks strong, and the staff friendly. My only complaint was the wait to get downstairs. It took around five minutes for an elevator to get up stairs. But other than that it was a great night. A definite spot to check out!

Never Again - Bad Drinks, Bad Attitudes, Plastic Cups?

On Saturday night, myself and my Girl, and her Brother walked into Plunge. We were allowed in once we tipped the doorman heavily (which is fine, since there was a line, and I am not new on how to get past the rope). Once upstairs, we were treated to rudeness of an extreme measure. When we attempted to rectify a billing dispute, it took going through no less than three levels of management to get to someone to let us finish a sentence. I would have liked to actually see the bar and the view, but we left within 15 minutes (and -$90). I understand the area and I expected so much more. The mixed drinks were horrible, and $10 for a short-pour beer in a plastic cup from staff that clearly resented my presence? Unacceptable! From the attitude we all got that night, I highly doubt that this is an isolated incident; It appeared they are pros at it. I was already out $500 for dinner, and was on my way to spend that much more for the rest of the night. Too bad it wasn't (and will not be) at Plunge.

Went and had a drink here on a Monday night around 11:30pm. The hotel was dead but very chic; and the bar itself is pretty unique. Service was slow despite a thin crowd, and I can't really comment on the quality of drinks because it's easy to make a good Ketel Red Bull. The views from outside are amazing...and the location is great too. By the time we left the bar had started to fill up, but still wasn't too packed.
