I live in the nabe and passed the place for years before finally going in. The space was attractive, comfortable - its red and brown hues inviting. I went with two friends who drink a lot, so they could not attest to whether the food was worth eating. The waitresses acted like they didn't want to be waitresses, probably not everyone's first choice as a career, and considering the food was no better than Veselka, the prices were high. .. and about the stainless steel toilets. Is anyone except a hard-core S&M fetishist really interested in experiencing life in a gulag? my friends loved the drinks. There are many more interesting places in NYC with much better food. If you want to drink a lot of vodka served by really fed up waitresses, you will be in heaven

I went to Pravda last night as part of a large group from work. We had a good time: food was good, served quickly, albeit expensive for the sizes (thank you, expense account). We tried just about everything on the menu and most items were quite tasty. The French fries were actually really good. For drinks, I tried the Leninade (vodka/lemon/mint) and the Pravda Press (vodka, ginger ale, bitters and something I forget) - both very good. Most everyone enjoyed there cocktails and we probably ordered every drink they had at least once. Service was attentive - probably due to our size and bill potential. But I'd definitely go back for a fun time.

I went there on a Sat. night with friends. The decor is ok and music is ok. Is rather relaxed bar. But service is the worst ever, even for NY standards. $17 martini drinks are very overpriced and not good. The barman (specially the blondy with short hair) is not only illmannered and bad tempered, but he would not lower himself to ever talk to his customers. Very bad experience. If the owner made more effort in supervising the employees, maybe would be worth paying a visit.

I had a party there and it was out of control... great spot to share fun times with friends... especially if you like your drinks poured right!

Went to Pravda for a friend's birthday. We had a bar/caviar tab of over $500. When someone gave the birthday girl cupcakes, the hostess came over and yelled at us. She threatened to charge $5 per person if she took a bite of the cupcake. It was a Tuesday night -- not very busy and here we were spending a lot of money in their establishment. Let the birthday girl eat a god damned cupcake for her birthday!
