Brats & beer? What more could a girl want?
By CynicalSunshine5 on 2/27/2009
EXCELLENT beer selection - my friends and I spend all night swapping beers and noshing on brats hot off the grill. We always have a great time here. Try to get there early on the weekends so you can grab a table. The food that comes from the kitchen is terrible, so I would stick with beer and whatever comes hot off the grill from the "brat stand" in the back.

The hall's community seating on a first come, first serve basis is great for a relaxing time out. Order off the menu or just walk up to the grill, allowing you to grab a bite as quickly as you want. The different grilled sausages are fantastic (venison, brats, weisswurst, and smoked kielbasa on the night we went), and the beer selection is just what we were looking for (try the Schwarzbier). The apple streudel was delicious, especially the fig & pumpkin ice creams served with it. It definitely reminded me of the beer halls in Bavaria. We weren't rushed even though the place was packed, and there were others having a birthday celebration or simply working on a laptop. I would recommend this to anyone!

This place will forever be amazing no matter what anyone says about it! The venison sausage...selection of hundreds of beers...check. The only thing I would add is an outside garden, something like the new biergarten that's over near Lorimer called Loreley. Yeah, I'm name dropping. It's pretty sweet as well. Radegast has live music though, and that's always a plus, it's more for night drinking though..
Great beer and atmosphere, with grill to match

You'll find a great selection of beers at Radegast (i.e. no PBRs!), and the two large rooms provide an Oktoberfest feel, especially during the summer. The food is only so-so, but I'll admit that the hot-off-the-grill kielbasa was quite tasty after I polished off my big mug (it required two hands for lifting) of pilsner.
A very fun atmosphere - a must go beer garden in Brooklyn

A very fun, hipsterish German beer garden located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I loved their grill and the atmosphere was phenomenal. I took photos of Radegast Hall & Biergarten: www.gothamfoodporn.com

For parties of at least 6 the Radegast computer automatically adds a 20% tip to your beer and food consumption. Unfortunately this 20% tip is not reflected on the charge slip that is returned for your signature. It shows only a "Purchase Amount" and on the next (blank line) suggests "Enter Tip Here". If you unwittingly add (what would be a second) 15% to 20% tip on your charge slip, you will have tipped 38% -44% total. This tipping set-up for 6 or more, even if you catch on to it, takes away from what otherwise would be an enjoyable, unique beerhall experience. The beer and the sausages from the grill were good; everyone on on our table liked the strudel; the Veal Schnitzel, however, was disappointingly dry and tastless. Overall service was good.

So we arrived there o a crowded Friday night and ordered 2 beers- we had $6 in change, that the bartender decided to keep. Fine. My boyfriend and I have worked in restaurants so we will let that slide. Then our friends arrived, we ordered a total of 5 beers and left a crisp $5 on the bar as a tip. I was sitting right at the bar and the bartender quickly grabbed up the $5. Then as soon as he grabbed it he turned to me and insisted we need to tip. What?!?! I felt like I was being punked or something. This bartender had recieved $11 for 7 beers and I watched all of this go down. Oh but right- he must think I am blind so he insisted that we didn't leave a dime. So being a good person I left another $5. So this bartender banked $16 for 7 beers. Basically he treated me as if I was drunk or stupid, and i was neither of those things as I had just arrived at the bar. I think that this is a routine that the bartenders often perform there so I will never return. I would also highly recommend that NOBODY frequents this establishment. The bartenders are rude and disrespectful. Unless you are ready to tip $5 on every beer or have to put up a fight just to get a drink I would not go here.
