The chicken wings (especially considering it was 3a) were excellent

Aptly deemed "Your New Favourite Bar" by New York Mag. I went for the first time last Saturday. Quite simply, Spur Tree presents Jamaica in a chic & trendy yet cozily familiar package . It highlights the island's best features in its food, music & vibe. Features a great outdoor space. Very friendly waitstaff. The gourmet twist on classic Jamaican foods enhances their flavours while still keeping them quite authentic. As a considered jaded New Yorker in terms of nightlife, I was indeed captivated. Much like the known advertisements encourage about Jamaica itself, of Spur Tree I would also encourage to "Go then you'll know".

From when you step through the door, passing the huge photo of a 'Spur Tree' and spotting the smile of a beautiful bartender, you feel the welcoming energy of the islands. The vibe was alive and hip, keeping a very roots air from the wait staff to the sorrel martini to the jerk-spiced salmon- delicious!... Incidentally, the evening I visited, Tricky was in the garden enjoying quite a few Red Stripes. All of the dishes were unique and fresh, many including the traditional jamaican jerk spice... try the jerk lamb chops! I will definitely make a return visit, bringing more of my friends to enjoy the same experience... The music, food, and staff were are delightful... the only thing that Spur Tree was missing is the Appleton rum... which i heard is being worked on. Thank you Spur Tree. The vibe is definitely something the city has been needing.

Yes, the waitstaff looks like they walked off a Vogue covershoot, but when I am starving for my entree...15 minutes after my date has finished his, it does not matter what you look like. I wanted so much to like this place, especially because I heard so many great things about it from friends. But small portions and slow and chilly service made a bad first impression. The jerk chicken was good but not necessarily memorable. The decor was sleek and simple, and the view from the courtyard was breathtaking. I hope Spur Tree will improve with time, because I love Jamaican food.

Very warm, cozy vibe. Waitstaff was all very nice (although a bit patronizing when my friend sent a drink back). The drinks are good, though the special liquor they use in most of them leads to a mild, almost bland flavor. I'd like to see the flavor of the drinks punched up a bit to earn this place a perfect 10. The food was great - definitely don't skip the rice and peas and the plantains. Excellent prices, too. Very clean as well - even the bathroom was super clean and had nice touches like good soap and hand lotion. Looking forward to my next visit (and to it being warm enough to use their patio out back)!

The food here was wonderful and affordable. The jerk lamb chops were amazing! The fresh watermelon juice was really refreshing - I recommend it. The music is great and the service is excellent. I came for dinner early and ended up staying until they closed because the vibe was just so good.
