Having taken Japanese cooking classes and been exposed to remarkable japanese resaurants around the world, I was pleased to discover this gem. Nothing I ate was like any other japanese food I had enjoyed before. The restaurant specializes in japanese tapas-like dishes to be matched with a tremendous assortment of sake. The 4 seaweed Kaiso Salad, the marinated whitefish (Shiroi Nanban), the wonderful tuna tartar topped with a layer of two types of fish roe (Maguro Tartare), and the simple Udon noodles were all worthy of appreciation. The Taiheizan Kimoto (cold) sake was an excellent accompaniment . The service was attentive and professional. All round an excellent experience.

I lived in Tokyo for 3 years and was thrilled by this place, its food, the atmosphere and the sake list. It really reminds me of Japan and there is no compromise to Western tastes. The proportion of Japanese customers proves it.

yes there are suits but what a find! Great soba and great sake! Free sake tastings at lunch time. If you get the cold soba, be sure to ask for the original noodle soup they cooked the soba in afterwards, the warmth will balance the cold soba in your stomach. The desserts are divine. Great sesame and green tea ice creams. Definitely go at lunch if you want to avoid after-work crowd. Go before noon if you don't want to wait in line for seats.
