I grew up in a bar in CA. Sophie's is the closest thing to my memory of the feelings I had in CA. Priceless!

still holding out

Ahhh, Sophie's. How many times, in the good old days, did I stop in to warm up or cool down on the way back from a quick trip to that now defunct Colombian outpost known as Wise-In? How many times did I pull a Train Spotting in the bathroom? And yet the place, and I, have survived. Beers are no longer a dollar, but they're still cheap. People are no longer as grungy hip, but they're still grungy. Best post-college bar for a feel of the pre-fascionista East VIllage.

3.00 beers but what a place

Sophies has an amazing crowd that comes to play pool and listen to the jutebox. Beers are 3.00 and you can get two songs for a dollar, but they are totally worth it.

Some Hints:

  • The best reviews give a clear sense of why you liked or disliked a restaurant, bar, or store. And that means details. Mention specifics dishes, type of crowd, pros and cons...
  • If it's helpful to compare one place to another, go for it.
  • Come up with clever, funny, pithy subject lines, and write in the first person.
  • Don't forget to read the user rating guidelines and rules.
