I am not the type of person who usually goes out of the way to write reviews, and also believe that some things are best left undiscovered. But this place is just that good. The food is wonderful. Try the braised beef flatiron. It is falling-off-the-bone tender and the beef itself is paired, and perhaps cooked, with a delicious horseradish creme fraiche. The flavors are layered into this dish in an extraordinary way. Other dishes are similarly great. The wine is clearly selected by someone who knows his or her stuff. All in all it is food heaven. Also convenient to BAM. I like to consider myself an educated foodie (traveling around the city, the country and even the world to find new food experiences) and I think this stands out as an impressive place.

Stonehome is an excellent find in Fort Greene (and Brooklyn as a whole), reminding me a lot of smaller restaurants in Greenwich Village, with regularly updated menus. Stonehomes strength is in its small-dishes and a very knowledgeable bar staff who not only describe their wines in great detail, but also serve with class. It's unfortunate that the reviewer below had trouble with the hostess, but goes too far in steering people away from the place itself. I will admit, though, that as a server myself (in Manhattan) what's most aggravating for folks in the service industry is a pack of people crowding an already tight space and getting in the way of those trying to get work done. I would imagine that ten people standing around the bar would obstruct servers with trays full of wine glasses, runners with hot food, and bussers with bins full of dishes. Stonehome is cosy, its a place to sit down, talk with a few friends and share some dishes. If you're looking for a bar-type atmosphere, maybe try Moe's across the street.

I had visited this place during the summer and was very pleased.......a nice bartender........a nice glass of wine. therefore for my birthday celebration this past weekend on sat..I had wanted to show all my friends.....(10 friends) this great place. we had had dinner near by........and then went here. so as it goes; we walk in and the place was crowded but the hostess.;.a woman, very rudely asked us if we wanted a table.......and we said no; we were just going to have drinks at the bar........and with a horible look on her face......walked away and then proceded to tell all my friends that we cant stand there and have a drink........there were too many of us there., we were blocking the traffic flow, so we left. 10 people......she just made us so unwelcomed...........I was so upset........I and my friends will definitely not be back........there was a better way to handle that! She was blatenly rude to all of us. My boyfriend was shocked. My guests were appauled.....we wont be back again sorry to say.
