This place is awesome and is now on my "regular hangout" list. The bar in front is pure "Mad Men" retro and a BIG step up in decor and comfort from anything in the area. But the vibe is friendly, cool and relaxed. A real mix of people always, from regulars (including me, now) to folks just coming in because they follow one of the bands playing. Which brings me to the back room - a hip, all black space, with a small stage, comfortable cushioned benches along the wall, and great lighting and acoustics. Have heard everything from jazz to metal here, and it all sounds great ... and you're RIGHT there with the band ... up close and personal. Nice. If you stay late, the DJ's have been good, too, and even the house mix is right on. As for drinks, the local beer selection on tap (my preference) is well chosen and reasonably priced. I'm not into cocktails as much, but my gf says they're kick-ass. And also seem pretty reasonable. She likes the Hemingway Daiquiri (did I spell that right?) Bartenders are real pros, too ... not the usual out-of-work temps. And the owner (nice guy) is around most of the time. Overall, this place is a definite for anyone in the neighborhood (which has really needed a place like this) and is worth a trip from the usual North Slope spots and even a detour from B-burg for Manhattan folks wanting a touch of real Brooklyn style. Just feels right at this place ... nothing forced or phony. Come join the party. I'll save you a seat at the bar.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
