I stopped in at the Randolph on a Saturday night. It was busy, but not too crowded. The cocktails were excellent and the bartenders knowledgeable. The space was warm, and lacked many of the pretensions common to other, more famous cocktail joints. The place is big enough to accommodate groups of people, yet intimate enough to be a good date spot (though seating may be hard to come by at peak times). New York has high standards for cocktails and cocktail bars these days; the Randolph meets those standards with aplomb.

Went there on my day off to sit at the "slow bar" and had amazing coffee creations made right in front of us with flare and a bit of flame. Flavors like birch, cardamom, anise, vanilla, cola, etc. infused our coffee drinks and were a real treat. It was a nice departure from the usual latte, espresso, coolata. Highly enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
