We were lovers of Florent so you should understand where we're coming from. My wife and I wanted to check out this Biergarten for awhile but the crazy crowds had kept us away. Finally went one early Sunday to watch a World Cup match (Germany, of course). I'm writing about the outdoor bar area not the restaurant inside, which are two different places. This biergarten is so disappointing because of what it could & should be. The atmosphere is really great, being right under the Highline, and they've added some very nice touches. That said, this is a Beer Garden and they had three choices of beer. THREE. A weiss, a lager and a dark. That's it. Snacks were not impressive at all. $8 for a very large and freshly baked pretzel with mustard. It was a very good pretzel but $8? I might be happier with it if their beer choices were anything close to what they should be offering. So, I would say go for the "scene" if that's what you want but if you are looking for good beer, don't waste your time.

Meatpacking District, under the Highline, 3 beers on tap. Really, that's about all you need to know. The girls wear t-shirts that are printed to look like little german suspender outfits. I kinda wanted to buy one. The beer was...standard. An $8 ticket buys you a 32 oz of your choice on the draft. We tried the weiss and the lager- the darker beer was the better of the two. The crowd was kind of a mixed bag on the Tuesday night we were there. At our picnic table, we were sitting with an older couple who got decently bombed and more friendly as the night went on. My friend and I were also hit on by a young pair of Russians- slightly amusing and annoying at the same time.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
