A Basement Bar Worth Finding: The Tippler

By sprungonfood on 2/12/2014

  • Overall Rating: 8
  • Yes, I would go back!

Located in the basement of Chelsea Market, you'll find The Tippler, a 100 year old historic space that is now available to the public in the form of a bar. They take their cocktails seriously and offer craft beers, wine and snacks. The atmosphere is cozy and offers some couch seating in addition to their bar seats. Look up, and you'll feel like you're viewing a mini Michelangelo ceiling painting. You can read the rest of my review with photos here: sprungonfood.com/2013/12/06/the-tippler

Not Going Back

  • No, I would not go back!

Terrible. Went for NYE. They advertised: "No Cover! (no reservations or open bar packages)." We get there at 9:30pm, they reserved the WHOLE place. Every table. Hundred people on line, no one getting in, except for ones who bribed the bouncer, who made it clear he was not an employee but was quite open to bribery. Way to screw everyone. Won't be back.

Some Hints:

  • The best reviews give a clear sense of why you liked or disliked a restaurant, bar, or store. And that means details. Mention specifics dishes, type of crowd, pros and cons...
  • If it's helpful to compare one place to another, go for it.
  • Come up with clever, funny, pithy subject lines, and write in the first person.
  • Don't forget to read the user rating guidelines and rules.
