Everything about our experience here was awful. They didn't have the wine we requested. It took an eternity for our food to come (so long that our server brought us four small pieces of bread and some olive oil for 'while we wait'). Another server came over and asked how everything was and we replied that we were still waiting for food. When it did finally come, the portions were extremely tiny and though tasty, not worth the price or wait time.

I'm so thrilled that The Vanderbilt opened up in my neighbourhood. Excellent cocktails and the food is SUPERB! It's all small plates, so the portions are small but everything I've had there (and I've been several times since they opened) has been impeccably done and very tasty. The service is great, very professional and the staff is very accommodating and knowledgeable + zero attitude. A surprising and refreshing change for New York and for such a lovely space!

Here's the lowdown. Go to Vanderbilt uninfluenced by any review, chef or proprietor's name, and suchlike ballyhoo and you will have an average meal not worth its price. Go otherwise (as we did) and you will wonder who's playing a joke on you. The scene during Sunday brunch was an insufferable bedlam: tables dirty, waiters running around &c. The brunch was less than average. Two 'Vanderbilt Eggs' on ham and a soggy muffin for $12 plus $5 for three charred bacon samples makes $17! Go to 10 Downing and you'll have three delectable eggs w/ sides for $9. The much-hyped Brussels sprouts were good but served at a wee saucer and 5 of them at $5 is a further gest. The rest of the experience follows in this vein. Who sustains this restaurant remains a mystery yet to be solved.

Delicious food, great atmosphere and our server was super courteous and professional. I recommend to sit at the open kitchen to admire the care with which the exquisite small plates are prepared. All of this for very affordable prices. THE restaurant discovery of the last months!

The food, atmosphere and vibe is on point. The service needs lots of work. When dishes arrive at the table, the least you can expect is an explanation. And at the very least, the chef deserves it. The rush is most likely attributed to the amount of people opting to eat in the actual dining room as opposed to the bar area.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
