A co-worker and I had to work late and decided to go out for a drink when we finished - we were headed to 230 fifth (our regular after work spot) but stumbled upon an unmarked spot with a line outside. We asked the doorman what it was and realized it was Tillmans. One of the guys at work raves about it so we decided to try something new. We had to wait a few minutes because we didn't have a reservation and there was some live music thing going on inside but when we got inside we realized that it was worth it. It was such a cool and unique group of people and the music was sick. We missed the live music but a DJ took over and rocked it. My boyfriend ended up meeting me there and we got a booth and food - yum. We are taking friends back this weekend.

I'm always looking for a relaxed but upscale place for a weeknight. Tillman's fits the bill. I went last night, had a great time, and thought the staff was very friendly and the patrons were classy in their mingling, which is refeshing in a city filled with bars that don't always bring out the best in people. I'll definitely be back, with lots of friends. p.s. The French Onion Grilled Cheese sandwich was fantastic.

Rolled into Tillman's around 6pm - despite calling ahead and being told there was no need to reserve a table - I got crap from the host about not having a table reserved. No big deal, we were seated promptly anyway with the warning that we might get booted from our table at 7. The lounge area is super mellow and romantic. The sandwiches are very good, although the cold, slimey beans they serve with them were kinda gross. And the service is pretty bad, so if you're there to relax, I highly recommend, but if you're there for a quick bite, go hit up McDonald's. Still a great date spot within walking distance of Penn.
