Definitely the best open mic in NYC. I'm usually shy but it's an encouraging atmosphere which makes it easier. Hosts are funny and supportive which helps. One host, who for some reason they call Shaneekwa, even let me use his guitar. Performers get a chance to do up to 3 songs and they always make sure everyone who wants to gets a chance to sign up on the list and go on stage. There was a homeless poet, a rapper, some singer-songwriters, and an acoustic band the night I was there. At the end there was a jam session with the guys that run it and some other musicians that got the place filled with drunk foreigners dancing. Really fun. Warning: Vacationers can get wild. Only drawback is that it's @ 10 pm on a Sunday which makes it hard to come out for people with work. Definitely worth the trek though

Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
