Warm Welcomes and Authentic Cappuccini

I patronize this cafe quite often, frankly, because their coffee is excellent. I used to live in Italy, and few places have come close to matching my expectations for a good espresso or cappuccino. Coupling with an almond croissant is ideal. Or if you're in the proper mood, their speck-fontina-truffle panino is superbly savory. As a graduate student, when I find free time (or need to accomplish some heavy reading), I come here and sit for hours. The place is pretty quiet most days, even when the room gets cozy with customers. There's free WiFi, as well. But even if you're not in work mode, this cafe is perfect for relaxing and catching up with friends. I've never had issue with the staff. Each bartender has a great personal taste in music that they keep running throughout the day and they give great recommendations, on just about anything really. They are such fun and honest personalities. The place is small, so large crowds should most likely stay away unless dropping in for a take-away order.

Great atmosphere

Vbar is both a coffee shop during the day and wine, import beer bar in the evening. It's got a very warm and welcoming feel... if you're a regular the staff remember who you are and what you normally order. I get a coffee every morning before work and beer during the weekends. With every purchase there's FREE Wi-Fi so you can surf the net while you enjoy your beverage. It's perfect for single or freelancers who want to get some work done and not be disturbed. They play classical music all day long, the crowd is generally very quite even though it's right by NYU.

A home away from home

I really like this place, mostly because you can always go there by yourself, yet not feel alone. During the day, it's quiet enough to work, read, or just hang out with your friends. At night I keep coming back to it as the perfect place to enjoy the company of my friends over some pretty delicious vinos. Some of the other posts talk about the staff. I've never had a problem. In fact, the bartenders have made me laugh on more than one occasion. Stay away from the cheese plate though.

Fab, low-key bar to catch up with friends

This bar is one of the hidden gems of NYC. By day, you can camp for hours, drinking great wine and beers, snacking on tasty finger-foods while playing a game of Scrabble, Connect-4, Battleship or checkers/chess with friends. They also have free wi-fi if you have some work or studying to do. At night, the lights turn down for a great, low-key atmosphere to catch up with friends, great and no pressure first date before dinner, or the perfect place after dinner. The music is great and bartenders are extremely friendly.

bad service

  • No, I would not go back!

On the good side this bar is cute, comfy and is a pleasant atmosphere to be in. They have a wide assortment of great beers and wines. Unfortunately, the bartenders are not very attentive, and threw a fit at my party of 8 (all of whom where drinking and tipping), for apparently "clogging up the bar", when in fact we where the only customers other than 2 other solitary drinkers. Very bad attitude here, not recommended.
