I want to like Whitehorse. Unfortunately, the staff make that impossible. I arrived last night to have a drink- all but one table in the bar area was open, and there was no waitress to be seen. I ordered a drink, and proceeded to sit down at one of 6 empty tables, and was promptly told to remove myself. Wanting to sit, my friend and I proceeded outdoors to sit on one of the 10 empty benches, only to be told the outside was closed. We returned indoors and requested more information from the waitress, who was busy watching baseball, as to why we could not sit if the place was empty, "It's policy. It's not my policy". Employees should be impowered to make decisions regarding the comfort of their customers. I think I'm less of a bother sitting down than standing up in the middle of the bar.

White Horse - terrible service

The White Horse came recommended as a famous pub. However, the experience is poor. We went there last night. It's packed in the main bar, everyone barging into you. You get told (rudely) you cannot stand in the side room because you can only buy drinks from the waitresses. You can't be outside with more than 3 friends ("a big group" according to the surly bouncer) or you get asked to leave. If you mistakenly buy a drink at the bar and take it outside, the waitresses, who only care about their lousy tips, tell you off. Terrible customer service all round. Not worth going to, even for the name.

My husband and I usually go for a drink here on our way to Myers to dutifully pick up our supply of British goodies and 'proper bacon' - so we've always gone on a Sat/Sun afternoon. The vibe has always been good. Not too young - a nice flow of people. We did get yelled at once by the waitress for ordering our drinks at the bar and then sitting down once a table opened. In our defense, we weren't even aware there was a waitress (and even when we were her level of service was so piss poor she might as well not have been), but we apologised for our ignorance and ordered another round. She was still snippy afterwards. Some people just shouldn't be in customer service. In their defense, they do pull a fine lager shandy and you can have a chat at the bar with some interesting people -which is more than can be said for alot of NY pubs.

This place is noisy, crowded, and the poor acoustics make it even noisier than you'd expect in a crowded space of that size. The customer service (if you could call it that) ranges from brusque to downright nasty. And here's the icing on the cake. This being New York, you once in a while get to see a famous person next to you in a bar or restaurant. So a party of 7 or 8 people is sitting in the tavern, among them one acoustic guitar, one violin, and one rather famous and respected singer from the golden age of prog rock. After a while we hear the guitar strum a bit and the singer starts singing. What a treat! We're not talking loud here, it's one guy with a wonderful voice and one acoustic guitar. No microphone. Can't even be heard on the other side of the bar. Suddenly Big Mean Bouncer comes over and throws the entire party out of the bar!! Anyone who tried to protest was threatened. This is NOT a nice place. I would never go back.

eating your fancy hamburgers with your time bomb ambience and poets and thrown-back self-righteous claims and whiskeys, grilled cheese and sizzling meat entering your pores and exiting through hot breath and unkept promises, son of a bitch.

Nice during the day BAD at night

White Horse is a nice place to stop by during the day and grab a bite or a drink, but at night it turns into amature drunk hour and the waitresses have no sense of customer service. If you must see this place, go during the day and get your "feel" for NY history and then get out. Avoid it at night.

if I could give ZERO stars, I would. lame has-been dive bar with an extremely RUDE bouncer wannabe (i.e. his job is to check IDs but he thinks he works the door at 1Oak) who gives attitude to and yells at women half his size. the only people who wait to get inside are tourists and bridge and tunnel. a wait with an attitude at this place?!? there are so many bars with better atmospheres and the same prices near here with nice people - don't waste your time here.

Burgers are equal/better than Bistro. Good company with some celebs dropping by. Used to be a place to find Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Mailer, Kerouac, and the Clancy Brothers. Idea for the Village Voice was floated here. People stop by to work on scripts, and Wall Street types will show up too. In warmer weather, sidewalk dining is nice. However, if it is crowed, you request a table outside, and then wait inside -- do not expect someone to come and get you! You will be shit out of luck! Sunday's are great for eggs benney and a bloody marys, but is slow most of the day. Late night on Sunday may find them closing early. NOTE: Like the new light-weight stools at the bar. Nice addition. The doorman could get a hernia moving the old ones to the alley area when the main bar needed to be cleared out in the early evening making room for the crowds. Blame the lack of stools in the evening on Jimmy. And as a sign says, don't expect special favors for being Jimmy's friend or relative. He has none!
