I've been to relax at least 10 times, and have been worked on by four or five of their massage therapists. I have always left there feeling way better than I did when I went in. If you're looking for fancy - this ain't it. If you're looking for an exceptionally good massage, pleasant, experienced staff at an affordable price, Relax is where you would find it.

I was very happy with my sessions and have been back several times. It is just what I was looking for. Not a fancy spa but a place for serious massage work. If you want the fluff and buff and white robes, go elsewhere, but if you are looking for serious massage from dedicated therapists then this is the place for you.

The combination of skillful, deep tissue massage (very deep) and the essental oils in the air left me feeling taller as I floated out the door

I've lived in the same neighborhood for over 10 years, and only recently discovered Relax (through NY Magazine!). after a very stressful and tiring holiday season, my boss gave me a gift certificate, for Relax and i went yesterday. I am feeling the best I've felt in ages! Slept well last night and my body is not stiff this morning for the first time in I don't know how long.

I've been going to relax since it first opened 10+ years ago. the level of work has consistently been a ten. It's one of the few places I've gone (and there have been many) where when I ask for a deep tissue massage I get it. And it is from a knowledgeable, experienced, and attentive professional. If you're sick of the pretentious spa scene, this small, low key establishment is a refreshing change.

Relax was just mentioned in the NYT as one of NYMag's "best spas in the city" and felt it was my duty to say - there are a few things wrong with that statement. First, Relax is not a spa. Which is not problem. But second, based on the experience I had, they are not deserving of ANY "best of" award. Rick's skills may be great - I can't attest - but if it's his practice, he should be continually making sure that his therapists are up to par. I went in expecting a no-frills, serious massage from a skilled therapist. Instead I got a mediocre massage from a woman who arrived late, smelled like smoke, and had noticeably rough hands. I thought to call and let him know how negative my experience was, but never did. Maybe he'll read this. Either way, I would steer anyone away from this spot.

Only booked here because my guy at Cornelia is out on leave and this place had a good rating. Not sure who they paid or how much to get a "Best of NY" rating, but it is SOOO not deserved. I've had far better in dive massage parlors - the space was dingy & cold, the oil was dry & cold, the table wasn't heated, the room had 2 fans on & they cover you with crappy towels. The therapist was not on the level I expected with this rating - hands were scaly and rough and didn't seem to really know what she was doing. I don't feel like I had a massage - if you need this price range, go to Juvinex. Overall, go to what used to be Cornelia - a much better investment - Relax is a waste.

Booked appointment after reading it was a NY Mag pick. Maybe the owner is a decent therapist but if the other therapists there reflect his abilities I wouldn't count on it. The review prepared me for a no frills environment but the place is a dump. This wouldn't be so bad if the actual massage was good but this was just absolutely awful in every way (technique, energy, attitude, massage table, room) and I've had all types/styles of massages. Avoid.

If you want to make an appointment here, expect to play an extended game of phone tag, since they never pick up the phone. If you do eventually get to make an appointment, they cancel it. I can't rate their massages, since I never got to go there, but their customer service is so appalling, I'm surprised they get any custom at all.
