I've been going to Sal's - for over 13 years and know many of the customers are regulars. The regulars each seem to have their favorite barber - I happened to get Sal the first time I went, loved the haircut, and have stuck with him since. He's efficient, pleasant and does an excellent job. And the treatment is old-world first class - you get a shampoo, a hot towel on the face, and the neck is finished with a straight razor. Prices have remained medium for Manhattan - slowly creeping towards thirty for the men's cut. I know there are less expensive haircuts to be had from real barbers elsewhere, but they've earned my loyalty and getting a haircut there gives me just a hint of pampering without getting into extravagant time or money.
