Great Body Scrub - Mediocre Facial
By truly_sweet on 5/29/2003
I recently had a "package" which was a very good price at Dorit Baxter, however the facial was sub-par at best. The steamer water smelled funny and it looked as though it had not been properly cleaned. The body scrub and the women who gave the treatment were GREAT. A fragrant salt and oil mixture was used. Overall, I would probably not go back, as I really wanted a good facial and this was not it.
Sweet and Sour

Facials: Strongly not recommended Massages: Wonderful but ask for a man. The place didn't give me a zen like feeling. I felt claustrophobic and unfresh. The spa employees were polite and friendly though.

I go to Dorit Baxter for facials at least 3-4 times a year. Their service is very hospitable, and their products are TOP NOTCH - very effective to get nice skin, and are not irritating for sensitive skin, like mine. Every aestetician that I've ever had has been knowledgeable, kind, and gave a great facial. I really like that they will tell you what your skin type is and then recommend the best facial treatment to suit your skin. I really recommend it.
Dorit Baxter Day Spa

This is a great place for spa deals in NYC. Also, it is ideally located.
Consistently good after all these years....
By Madrina on 12/10/2009
I"ve been going to Dorit Baxter for over 15 years. I've visited spas all around the country and always seem to find my way back to my home spa right here in NYC. The facials are very good because they actually do extractions without all the bruising. The camphor mask helps reduce swelling and redness. The deep pore cleanser is a must.
Wonderful day with my niece
By hyperactiveharriet on 4/25/2010
Spent half a day with my teenage niece there. We had facials, manicures, and pedicures. The facials were amazing. They catered to her teen skin needs and made her feel terrific. The pedicures are a bit pricey and I didn't love the experience of sitting on a couch while they where given... It wasn't comfortable for me.
great morning start!

I came across Dorit Baxter yesterday when I was looking up SpaWeek and they were offering what I was looking for so I called them and was there an hour later getting my $50 facial! It was really nice, I mean except for the extractions that is NEVER nice haha! They were all really friendly and helpful and made you feel comfortable with slippers, ice lemon water, andyour own locker for the day! I will be going back to get the products she used on me, it made my skin feel great...expect another review on the products and/or my next treatment...body wrap or reflexology, only time will tell!!

I first went to Dorit Baxter 20 years ago when I was about 20 and am still going for facials and massages. In fact, I've gone to "bigger" spas and didn't find the service any better, but Dorit's prices are MUCH better! I take friends and family for special occassions and recommend it for days you want to treat yourself. They have great twitter daily deals, and gift certificates for the holidays. I feel the owners are happy to see me everytime I go, and I've even seen Dorit on the street once and she stopped to say hello..... It's considered the first "day spa" in NYC, and good to see they are still around. Their services are worth the great prices they are.
