I happen to stumble upon this salon as a walk-in. Cute salon, very professional, convenient location (Side Note: Awesome chocolate chip cookies). Heather did a fantastic job. My hair just felt heavy; I hadn't been happy with it for a few weeks and always had it up in a ponytail. I had no idea what I wanted. She listened to what was important to me. I am a wash and go kind of girl. I do not do anything to my hair on a regular basis. Based on that, she explained my options. She ended up slightly layering my hair and putting in a few highlights. I'm still getting compliments weeks later! I will definitely be coming back.

After reading so many glowing reviews of Fox & Boy here on NY Mag, I decided to go in for myself and see what all the fuss was about and what a delight! The salon itself is so charming, relaxing and everyone was friendly. My appointment was with Rick, and he gave my the best haircut I have ever gotten! He really listened to what I wanted and has an amazing eye for detail. It has been a few weeks and I am still getting compliments!

I have been going to Julie, the owner of this charming salon, for a year now and have been very happy with my experience every time. I had been looking for a new stylist for over a year, wanting a place with good style but not hype, when I came upon Fox & Boy. Not only is Julie a great stylist, she is also extremely knowledgeable. She strives to have her clients walk out of the salon with a haircut that suits their personality and makes them feel great, as well as equip them with the right tools, products, and techniques to be successful in maintaining a great look and healthy hair. Julie is thoroughly enjoyable to work with and her salon has a very comfortable, friendly and inviting feel. I highly recommend Fox & Boy.

I visited the salon a week ago to get highlights and lowlights to cover some encroaching grays and the end result is fabulous- very natural looking and it blends seamlessly into the rest of my hair which is exactly what I was hoping for. Julie (the owner) is really fun to chat with and did a great job with the color and the assistant who helped her out with washing and blowdrying my hair was terrific - very adept and very gentle with the blowdrying. She looped the ends of each section of my hair into loose curls that were really lovely and lasted for several days. The salon itself is a lovely space and very laid back and quite pleasant to spend a couple of hours in. All in it was one of the best salon experiences I've had.

I recently had a haircut with Heather and she did a great job. She listened to exactly what I wanted to do with my hair, took over an hour to perfectly cut each strand on my head both wet and dry. I highly recommend Heather and this salon!!!

After decades with senior stylists at NYC salons (John Sahag, John Barrett, Frederic Fekkai, Bumble&Bumble, Butterfly Studio) I read these reviews and booked a haircut with Julie at her charming and intimate downtown salon. Julie was a revelation, a singularly gifted and expert stylist, gracious and low-key, wonderfully free of the preposterous preening and promotion (of products and self) I'd begun to think was the inescapable price of admission to haircuts at "top" NYC salons. I've got tons of long, fine, curly hair (read: dry & frizzy & unpredictable even before accounting for the weather) I neither color or blow dry. Julie transformed it into beautiful & sexy (without hair dye or dryer) and kept it long because she said it suited me. Well, maybe, but not until my hair met up with Julie's technical genius & fine eye for proportion, did my hair ever end beautifully cut but still suitably long. She brought it to life. My hair has never looked better or healthier, full of movement and light. I keep getting wonderful compliments about my beatiful amazing hair - not my beautiful amazing haircut - the true sign, in my view, of a consummate stylist. Thank you, Julie.

Heather is unbelievable. She turned my boring, blunt bob into a fun, textured, easy style that is shorter than I've ever had my hair, and yet so versatile. She is meticulous, takes her time, and enthusiastic about her work. Especially for fine-haired women who want something a little unique and fun, she's an excellent choice. As far as the salon itself goes, it's tiny, adorable, relaxing and fun. I was offered wine, soda, etc. immediately upon arrival, and Brooke is a hoot to chat with during your wash. By the way, Brooke managed to squeeze me in on a Friday night; my appointment was originally for next Thursday! Anyway, the pricing is more than reasonable (under $100 for an hour and 45 minutes in the salon), and I can't recommend it enough. It's places like this and women like that that will have me returning again and again. Love 'em.

I tend to trust the Critics Picks on the NY Mag website for restaurants and have thus far never been disappointed. But I have never gone to a salon for a cut based on an online review, and I have never written a review myself - until now. I decided to take the plunge and went to Fox and Boy based on the magazine and user reviews here because I was desperate for a haircut. And it was GREAT. Julie is a very talented stylist, and a warm and friendly salon proprietress. She listened to what I wanted, offered her opinion, and cut my hair exactly as we discussed, only better, because her skill exceeded my expectations. I got great advice on what to do between cuts that could have only come from someone who has years of experience and no one tried to sell me products I didn't need. The stylists at Fox and Boy are clearly plugged in to what's going on but aren't pretentious, which is nice for someone who is style-conscious but not a fashionista. Thank you Julie, and thank you NY Mag for your consistent reviews.

The decor is so simple and soothing, and the staff is super friendly and laid back (You kind of want to stay and hang out with everyone). But the real reason I love this place is because I am always guaranteed a fantastic haircut by Julie. I wanted to try something different for my last haircut, and I left with a fresh and updated new do that instantly transformed my look in a subtle way. Julie has a great eye and attention to detail. She immediately understood what I wanted, and was honest in what she thought would be most flattering for my face. Julie also explains carefully everything she is doing, so that I always feel included and confident in her work.

My hair is very thick and straight and most of the time when I get my hair styled it comes out looking the same as when I came in, only a bit shorter. Going into Fox and Boy was a refreshing experience. I went in with one look, and came out with a very different and awesome haircut. She was very professional, and was very mindful of length, making sure not to cut too much off, and explaining the process as she went along. What a great experience.
