Chemical Hair Straightening
By zalam on 1/20/2009
My hairdresser, Shelly, was very professional and assured; the process was shorter than the first time I had gotten it done and they used some new techniques/products, which was good because it means they are constantly updating and improving. The atmosphere was peaceful and the place clean.

Steve did an amazing job. I left the salon with a color an cut that exceeded my expectations! That rarely happens! I would recommend Steve Hong highly.

Head Quarterz Salon sponsors the Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant, of which I was a contestant. They colored, cut and styled my hair for various events during the pageant. I was so impressed with their work, I decided to make them my permanent hairstylist post-pageant. I currently go to Ken at the salon. Ken worked with me last week, in selecting a color most suited for my skin tone. He listened to what I want and made suggestions based on that. He was also very meticulous, and gave me helpful advice on styling techniques and how to manage my hair back at home. I left happy with soft, shiny hair. (Which definitely turned a few heads down the street :)). I've been to many many salons in my life, and Head Quarterz Salon provides the best quality service for the money, hands down.
oh yeah this is the place

Steve straightened my hair for my wedding day! It was amazing and I loved the way it turned out with the shine that can blind! His work lasted for over a year! After I moved more than 30 miles away from the city - I make a bi-annual trip to see Steve for a hair cut. For special occasions, I still come and get the wash and blow dry. Somehow their techniques work for my hard to style hair. The time they take to make sure everything is right is worth every penny. The wait is never too long - even if I don't make an appointment. What stands out from other places is their aim for cleaniness without too much fluff - and their services give the best results from all the other salons I had tried. They do it all - in one price, wash, cut, rinse and style... you feel pampered! Spending $40 there is like spending $150 in other overpriced salons.
Average Chinatown Salon
By sharonlou23 on 11/6/2008
Born and raised in Chinatown NYC and have tried numerous places over the past 30 years. Based on all the great reviews, yesterday I finally decided to go give Steve a try. I was so excited and was expecting something different than the usual Chinatown hair salons. All in all it was average. Haircut is the same but more costly ($40) than what I am used to paying ($20) for the same at my previous stylist on Pell Street.
HAIR EXPERTS LIKE NO OTHER
By JLin113 on 10/22/2008
This salon is simply top-of-the-line -- There is no doubt about it. If there is anyone who knows how to cut/style/color hair, it's Steve. Steve has been in the business for decades, but doesn't use that as an excuse for his mastery. He is always keeping his skills up-to-date with the newest trends in hairstyling. I have been going to Headquarterz for my personal and professional services for over a year. As the fashion director for an annual runway fashion show, I asked Steve and his styling team to create updos for 30 models. I was beyond impressed-- from edgy to elegant to anything in-between, they can do it all!
HEADQUARTERZ HAIR SALON
By MARCO1 on 9/22/2008
If you want perfect results, Headquarterz hair salon at 80 Lafayette Street in Manhattan is the place to go. I have been going there for almost 20 years. The staff is meticulous. Whether coloring, conditioning or cutting hair, each staff member works carefully to make sure the job is done properly. Steve Kong, director, is also the best at applying the Japanese hair straightening system. He analyzes the customer's hair and provides exactly the right amount of straightener in the process. Best of all, prices are reasonable. If you want a great looking head of hair, try Headquarterz. Contact Headquarterz on line at hqz80.com.
Best hair salon in NYC!
By roni13 on 9/18/2008
I wanted to straighten my hair for 2 years but was afraid to do it after seeing some really bad hair straighting jobs on other girls. Steve Kong was extremely professional, examining my hair for a long time before putting any chemicals in. now my hair looks sooooo GOOD!!!! it's shiny, soft, not freezy, and most importantly - straight! all i need to do is to wash it and go and it looks like i just came out of the salon. thank you Steve and his crew! thank you thank you thank you! :)
JOhn is great! head quarterz is a nice place
By aznboy on 9/10/2008
Head Quarterz is a great place!! first of all, the location is very convenient. Subway station, restaurants, banks are all nearby the salon. Also the people in the salon are so nice and polite. they greet you with warm smile, and love to chit chat with yo when they are free, so you wont be bored here. My hair stylist is John. He is every professional. He knows a lot about hair styling. I have no ideas of how to make my hair look good, but every time when i talk to him before the cut, i will end with smile. He thinks a lot when he design and cut my hair. He is a very careful person! THe best part is that he is willing to teach you how to take care and style your hair by yourself..!!! how nice of it!!! i learned so much information about hair style from him. and sometimes i am not just go there for hair cut, i also go there to chat with JOhn. He is a really nice person..!! yea do you hair at head quaterz next time, and ask for JOHN~!!! ^^

I have been recommending Steve Kong at Headquarterz to only my closest friends, on the fear that once his name and reputation become known it will be impossible to get an appointment! Self-interest aside, Headquarterz offers amazing value and meticulous service. Steve has been straightening my hair for several years and I've always been very pleased with the results. It looks great afterward, and is in better condition than when I started the straightening process. I have full confidence in Steve!
