This has to be one of the WORST experiences I have ever had. I work in fashion (editor, stylist & writer) so you could say I have met my share of divas & incredibly talented professionals both young & old. My husband lovingly tried to surprise me with a color & cut that he bought on the supposed luxury fashion site GILT.COM. The salon is incredibly glamorous, Glenn Close sat next to me, gorgeous chandelier in the center of the room, brick walls, incredible lighting and a very charming and gracious host at the door. My colorist & asst were stellar. I walked in with chest length hair and was completely ready to put myself in the hands of professionals. When I told my nonchalant hair stylist what I was wanting to do, he dissuaded me, promptly put my hair in a pony and unceremoniously chopped it to neck length. Even my colorist was aghast at his cold approach. At the better salons, stylists I know ask you questions that might help you achieve a new look. Here, not so much. After color, would you believe that the stylist actually told me he didn't have time for my cut because a client was coming in 10 minutes, basically showed me the door. My hair was wet, he didn't move to help me dry it, put it in a bun, perhaps fix the now off angle chop that he'd made. Niente! Nada! Amazing. Needless to say, not recommending unless you're going for color. Salons are places of beauty & pleasure, not places for celebrity attitude by the people who are supposed to be helping you achieve that.
Simone Mangano: Master Colorist
By sarahappleton on 9/25/2009
Simone Mangano has a natural sense, eye and talent for color that is rare. She created rich booming blond hair for me. After 6years together people constantly go crazy about my hair, although now its naturally, vibrantly stunning red. Red: the hardest and almost impossible color to work with and get right. If you are red, covering greys, changing or color your hair, give Simone the responsibility and forever live in hair color heaven. She gracefully did many small and two MAJOR color corrections. from horrible cheating mistakes turned nightmare. 1st: i called hysterically crying, after a colorist turned me from bardot blond to punk rock black purple, so bad the guy dried my hair up side down in my lap. I left with phenominal auburn hair. 2cnd: again in tears I resembled a pink and red cheetah, no exaggeration. She calmly, smiled and gently said, we can fix this! I walked out a natural, stunning strawberry blond beauty. The breathtaking color corrections were night and day. I completely trust her and can plop down and say 'do what you think is best' and it is absolutely beyond perfect. Simone mastered the art of color and applying it to hair!!!!!

At first I thought I was going to have a pretentious salon but I had an appointment with Ty and he was as professional as if I were the celebrity he just walked to the door. (not to be a name dropper)
The Price You Pay for No Service at John Frieda
By ElijahJames on 3/27/2009
John Frieda Salon on 76 Street is pricey but you expect this as well as good service. Apparently patrons aren't paying enough because the Assistants to the Stylists and Colorists are doing as little to service clients as possible. There are so many bad service incidence - it is like being on an assembly line waiting to have you color washed out - the timer went off 15 minutes ago and the Assistant - her hair is the color of Platinum - I think her name is Leigh Ann - finally washed me out - I came home, looked in the mirror and found my scalp coated with color pigment that she never shampooed out. Don't try the Assistants that charge $35 to blow out your hair. They used to be the clean-up staff and have no idea how to style or dry hair. You can't complain about the lack of Service here. You will be ignored. This is the price you pay for no service at John Frieda."
Worst experience of my life
By lshark on 12/20/2007
I have never been treated that rudely in a salon in my life. The stylist did a decent job, but the woman at the front desk (apparently the assistant manager) is a witch.
not what I thought

After visiting Louis Licari for several times I was refered to John Frieda, (for high ligths), by my partner. I found it very expensive for the quality I got. I'll go back to Yolanda at Louis Licari, my partner will come with me.
Frieda's fabulous cuts
By customnycshopr69 on 1/25/2004
A must for those seeking stylish cuts and quality hair products. The diverse staff is creative and talented, and they hear your needs; even Frieda's hair assistants are better than many stylists who've practiced at other salons for many years. Prices are slightly high but the quality is worth it.
Hair Colorist Sharon Duram Needs An Atitude Change
By chana on 10/27/2003
I have been getting my hair highlighted by hair colorist Sharon Duram for quite a few years.I finally got sick and tiered of her atitude...After paying $350.00 plus tip for her highlights, that didn't always come out good, and waiting 2 hours to be taken for my appointment without an apology...I decided no more! She really should realize as often as her name appears in the magazines, and it can disapear.
