Theo is a fantastic stylist. I have gone to him for about a year now and have never been disappointed in his cuts. He is consistently wonderful. I was due for highlights and wanted a cut at the same time, but Theo was out of town. So, I just got my highlights done and waited until next time for the cut. I went a full 3 months between cuts and my hair still looked great! A sign of a truly talented stylist is a cut that grows out so well.

John seems to remember his days on the farm BUT the rest of his staff are stepford clones who though trying to make the customer feel special only succeed in making them feel uncomfortable with their overly pretentious ostentatious pompious attitudes. That goes double for the "male" prima donnas floating around like butterflies. PUHLEEZE!!

I recently visited NYC for a family wedding and had arranged for a hair appointment in excess of months. While John did meet the standards of the profession the Staff made the whole experience take an immediate nose dive. What best characterizes John Barretts staff, from managers, to sylists to those that apparently really served no purpose but float around the salon.........are a mass of self absorbed "want to bes" who may think that they have ARRIVED only to realize as the time clock ticks they truly have missed the boat a very long time ago. What does customer service REALLY mean to those in the "service industry?" Certainly not enough self help books on this topic but more than enough beauty school drop outs!!!

i had the worst experience at this salon. i paid $450 to get my haircut from Mr. Barrett himself and it was abysmal. he wouldn't listen to what i wanted he just started cutting. my cut is way too short and my girlfriend is appalled. not to mention he was flirting with me the entire time.

I've never written one of these reviews but thought i had to speak up. I heard good things about this place and even took a 60 mile trip to get my hair done. What a waste of money -- and it certainly was not cheap. My hair is so crooked that my 8 year old daughter laughed at me when i got home. i had to go to my regular (local) hairdresser the next day to have it repaired.

I just had my hair cut and colored at the John Barrett Salon. I had the most amazing experience - not only does my hair look gorgeous but they really treat you like royalty - they will do your nails while you wait for your color to set and order you lunch from one of the yummy BG restaurants. Tip - if you want to go when the Salon is a but quieter Sundays are perfect.

I just got the works done at The John Barrett Salon (relaxer, cut, eyebrow shaping, manicure, pedicure, and makeup application). While it was pricey, it had to be my best experience ever at a salon!! the staff was so attentive from the start, offering coffee and magazines, and they guided me to each specialist every step of the way. I have definitely recommended this salon to all my friends and if you are looking for a fabulous 'do and exemplary service, please visit the John Barrett Salon!!!!!

After years of using 2nd rate salons, I decided why not give the infamous John Barrett Salon a try and see if it can live up to all the hype. I'm happy to say that $600+ for color and a cut was actually well worth it. I was ready for a stuck up staff of rude wanna be's but I am more than happy to say that EVERYONE was wonderful. I had color from George and a cut from Janet and they were the most down to earth exceptional people who actually listened and helped. It's an investment but the experience was amazing and my hair is (for once) great...plus the view is exceptional!

I agree with the review about ‘how expensive John Barrett haircut is”… I must say that I also paid $ 500 for his haircut, something that does not match with the current economy and also does not match with the great quality I got from Rodolfo Valentin just paying the affordable price of $ 225 for a supreme hair cut! Rodolfo is an artist in everything he does, from hair cut, to hair coloring and to the best hair extensions in the world ( while I was there the editor of the London’s time was there getting the famous hair infusion….she just came from London to spend the day at Rodolfo’s salon)….See by yourself at his chic, classy and private salon located in the third floor of 1020 Madison Avenue @ 78 st.

Julia is the only person that keeps me going back to John Barrett-she is an artist with brows, and actually makes my puny ones look thicker. (Irina is great as well, I see her when Julia is not available) I have tried others at the salon without much success. Their haircuts really don't measure up with other salon's, even less pricey ones. I obviously can't comment on every stylist-after all, every place has its hits and misses, but the staff really does embody the worst of upper east snobbishness, and what cracks me up about all that attitude, is that at the end of the day they're schlepping home to the same NYC apartment like the rest of us. Is there really a need for the farce? I guess it makes the ladies who lunch feel at home.
