There is no way this should be a "Critics Pick" - please re-review this place - it is awful

I made an appt. (earlier today) on lifebooker for 6:45pm. I was there at 6:40pm & was greeted by a woman working the front desk. She offered me a drink, which I politely declined, but she kept insisting, so I asked her what she had. She mentioned wine, to which I delightfully agreed. About 5 mins. later, I saw a glass of wine and asked if somehow that was the one for me, she said it wasn't and took it away. Few mins. later, she offered me some magazines, at which point I reminded her that she really had me excited about that wine. She replied that she could not retrieve the wine, because she had to mind the front door. She actually seemed annoyed that I kept asking about it--after she had insisted on offering! Then she mentioned that I should wait in the next room (nail treatment room). Which I did. All the while getting a sense of how awful the pedicure bowls (like cooper pots) looked & how uncomfortable the wicker arm chairs looked. After waiting a total of half hour with no wine or apologies, I went back to the front (where I saw yet another new glass of wine, whose I wonder?) & asked to reschedule, which she did for me (think you can guess that I am going to cancel). Never an apology from her. As I tried to leave, the door was locked (which I had to pull on the door and push once, before she finally told me it was locked!): so what was that story about watching the door? Waste of a half hour of my time. Been to probably over a 100 spas and this is, by far the worst.
Nasty & unprofessional

I really hate the place. I have been to many of the best spas in NYC and around the world and I can honestly say this place is the least professional with the nastiest, goofiest manager. My appt was 45 minutes late - considered acceptable by the manager. "we're not a bank, "she said when I complained. The schdeuling strategy is to cram as many appts in as psosible without regard for clients time and patience. Once inside, the cacaphony of ladies and staff chatting while getting their nails done inches from the massage room was too much! Do not go! I warn you if you do - you wont be able to just calm down.

I tried the new "Morocckin' On the Marakesh Express". The best massage I've ever had by far! It's done on a heated waterbed and uses a wonderful array of oils. Just Calm Down is soooo cute and artsy! You can pick your own music and they offer a selection of drinks. Definitely a hip place and an oasis away from the city. I loved it because it was different. Other spas are great but they are all the same and have the same look and feel. If you want a new spa experience, definitely try this place.

Best experience! From the moment you enter the doors, the feeling is fantastic! The girls at the desk are extremely nice and go out of their way to make you feel at home. It's like no other spa in New York City. The services are out of this world and the therapists are not only amongst the most knowledgable, but they are truly champions at what they do! Also, it is the perfect party atmosphere. Had my best friend's bachelorette at just calm down and all 20 of us couldn't get over the perfect experience. Since then, I have attended three more parties and they have all been truly remarkable! Always dreaming of my next appointment!

I never felt as special as I did when I spent the afternoon with a friend at just calm down. We both felt the positive energy as soon as we walked through the doors. After choosing music (how great is that!) we were wisked away to our massges. We thought it would be fun to share the room for 2 and it was. I had the Movie Star Massage and my friend had The Rock Star Massage. Both were sooooo relaxing that we could have stayed in the room another hour! Next were the facials. Our skin felt so clean and nourished that we did not need any make-up after. The beautiful flush was enough. And, it is very important to know that our faces had no red marks after! Finally, we both had The Mysterious Wisteria Lane Pedicures inside their tent! True heaven!! We were so impressed that we added manicures. We highly recommend just calm down to everyone!
great mud treatment doesn't make up for terrible customer treatment

here's a place that has fallen victim to the traditional spa folly...good spa service forgives awful customer service. in the few times that i have been to JCD i have been treated less like a princess and more like a serf--from being given an appointment an hour before the place opened (and then told it was my fault), to being spoken to as if i am an idiot. there are hundreds of better spas in new york. don't waste your time here...as good as the massages are--the girls behind the desk will make sure you tense right up before you're out the door.
horrible customer service

They demand cash tips and I left my rings there by mistake and they stole my rings. They are over priced, non-compassionate and RUDE! I will never return.

i went here last year and was pleased with the service but this time i would not go back again. service was snobby. incredibly painful waxing (despite having had this before). the woman just left me in the room and never even cleaned me up. she didn't do a good job either - really uneven. ugh, i will never go back here. i hope someone reads this before scheduling an appointment!!!

Spent $75 on a pedicure. However, their plastic wrap (last stage) left imprints on the nail varnish of both big toes. Could not find the manicurist to fix my problem, wanted me to wait till she comes back or have me come back later so that they can fix it. They did not consider the client's time (lack of it) nor did they offer to give a discount off this very expensive pedicure. Poor customer service. Will not go back. By the way, the "massage" of the pedicure is not a massage at all.

Aside from the service being quite uptight and snobby, a gift certificate purchased last year was not honored because it was one day late. Attempts to speak to the owner were unanswered... I will not return again!!!!!!!
