I don't write reviews that often but I must share my latest find for humanity and hair sake. To many people walking around the city who look like they've gotten their hair cut by the butcher, and their hair dyed at home in box. Having just moved from Los Angeles I needed to find a new stylist to have my hair cut and colored, I have curly blond hair, and i am very particular about who does it. So i've been holding out and my hair was becoming upset at me and vice versa. I did a slight bit of research and having heard about this place through my friend that used to go to her who moved to Los Angeles i decided to go with the owner Maria Mok. From the moment i walked in Maria was there to greet me as if i've known her for all of my life, as if we were sisters of another mother. Before i rant about how much i love this woman and how she brought me back from the doldrums... back to the hair. Needless to say her skills are a cut above the rest as i am now at peace with my locks I am no longer a California blond and a more natural New York blond, i'm anticipating the winter and not getting any tan, so a slight variation in tone was naturally due. So with a new hair comes a new life, and already i've found my new stylist. Thanks Maria Mok XXOO
Not your Mothers Salon!

I've had my hair styled in what is supposed to be so called high end salons. You know the ones where your treated like your part of an assembly line. The ones where models, and celebrities go for free, and treated like gold, and thats the only reason there. After being a disappointed with everything including the price i decided to check out some smaller boutique salons. So i decided to check out nymag.com, did some research and found Maria Mok's in the Village and judging the reviews it was worth a try. Let me just say simply that in a couple of hours, within a nice warm, chic, space with cool laid back stylist i was transformed into looking like the girl fresh out of NYLON. All the while feeling like the celebrity and model I'm not.
This Princess, isn't afraid of the Village people

I used to go to Rita Hazan and spend $200 dollars on my hair cut, and another equally embarrassing amount on my color, in what was supposed to be one of the best salons in the city. After leaving disappointed i decided to go to Maria Mok on a recommendation from my friend. Lets just say i was blown away. The space is more beautiful, the people are much cooler, and my hair cut was much better. Finally I have a cut that people notice, that is unique, and makes me feel great when i go out. Oh and did i mention it was a total bargain! I walked away feeling like a million bucks, while spending less than half the price than what i was accustomed to. Worth the cab ride!
007 Jessica Bond
By heatherh78 on 4/15/2009
Last week I was in desperate need of a haircut. I had a great stylist back home who I was 100% loyal to for years, but decided the cut could not wait and that I needed to go local. I am SO PICKY when it comes to my hair so I was a bit nervous to see someone new. A friend recommended Jessica Bond at Maria Mok's. I went in last week, and Jessica was AMAZING. She effortlessly worked her magic on my hair and I was showered with compliments by friends. Ok, so your hair always looks great leaving the salon. For the real test. I'm a bit obsessive about symmetry and shape, after I washed it again, checked it out and everything measured up. IT'S PERFECT. I am so pleased! I cannot give this girl enough props. I officially have to "break up" with my old stylist now
Thank you Emily of Maria Mok

I have never received so many compliments on a haircut in my life. My stylist was Emily. She was friendly and meticulous about her work. I'm very particular about my hair which I like to be edgy yet sophisticated. She listened while I talked her ear off and the result is fantastic. She even waited while I did my own inspection to make sure the ends were even. I will absolutely go back and I've been handing out her business card like crazy. The salon atmosphere is serene and uncomplicated. Mostly white with bursts of orange. Stellar magazine selection as well so no worries if you have to wait. One helpful note, tips must be paid in cash so come equipped, you'll want to tip plenty after such an amazing cut!
I cannot live without Maria Mok

Maria Mok has been my hairstylist for over two years and now she has finally opened her own unique salon. It is an oasis in East Village. I always feel so pampered and relaxed and she and her staff are the quintessential professionals. The interior design is just so cool too. My hair always looks amazing and I feel confident as a result. I have recommended 5 of my friends and they too are now regulars. I get stopped in the street by women who know the value of a good cut. Maria uses only the best products and takes the greatest care when consulting. I can't live without her! I highly recommend her !
