I recently had my hair cut by Martial Vivot & I'm very happy with the result. He began by asking a series of thoughtful questions about my hair. I've had my haircut by top stylists at Arrojo Studio, Aveda, Vidal Sassoon, etc, & Martial's initial consultation was far more thorough. I have wavy thick hair that can be quite hard to manage, but he knew exactly how to deal with it, & better yet, showcase its strengths. I have a rather round face & my ultimate goal was to make sure that the cut framed my face well. Martial placed my hair in different positions to actually illustrate how it would effect the framing of my face. The style he chose allowed my hair to be natural & styled easily, yet still make my face look more defined, which is exactly what I wanted. Magnifique!

My father and I try to enjoy a straight razor shave during our business travels and our trip to NYC was no exception. We had heard of this shop through some colleguess and both tried the signature shave by a barber named Justin. The experience was fantastic! He took good care to ensure our comfort and the results still days later are wonderful. My dad's beard is especially tough but he cut right through it! I decided to get a haircut with a stylist named Mari and was very pleased. She took what I had and updated it in the most flattering way. She was so cool too. The feel of the place is very unique. Neither of us have ever seen anything like it. The staff reccomended a few restaurants and were overall very friendly and eager to show us a nice time. A class act!

martial vivot salon is an amazing place. what i love is that martial who cuts my hair has brought my own personal look to a whole new stage. its amazing because he can literally make art out of anyone's hair which you see in his editorial spreads for magazines like blackbook but when it comes to his clients he gives them what they want...only much better than they could have imagined. he is also one of the coolest cats i've ever met, and his clientele love him and are super loyal. same goes for the other stylists -- the fashion director of T Style wrote a love letter about his hair cut with Losi at the salon who is one of the most legendary men's stylists in the industry. i went to Garren for years and it is so great to get the caliber of haircut without having to hang around a bunch of high strung scary upper east side billionaire women. i have to question anyone who commented that they had bad service actually went to the salon.

i am not one that pampers myself too often, but my hair such a disaster of curly-craziness i tend to not mind splurging on a nice haircut by a professional. i walked in, told them i wanted to look like a young village version of dylan, and left with the cleanest shave and sharpest looking haircut i've ever received. the look was exactly what i was aiming for; they have probably the best straight razor shave in the city. the best part is that if you ask nice enough, they will even cut your hair outside in their garden! this is a must have experience!

I have been a client of Martials for years and have always received outstanding service. His new salon is very cool and from the moment I walk through the door am greeted warmly by everyone as they offer me drink from the extensive bar. Martial is courteous and attentive to my style and always conscientious about making sure I am happy with the outcome. I will continue to recommend this salon to all my friends.

When I moved to the city, i had lost my barber of the past 10 years and was very insecure about trying someone different. It wasn't until a coworker of mine recomend that I see martial Vivot and his new salon that i thought of giving someone else a try. Apon arriving I was happily greeted by the wonderful woman at the front desk (jasimn?) and two female assistants. But that still didnt ase my nerves. How was the cut going to be? Martial introduced himself with a smile and a hardy hand shake and immidatly started talking about my hair. The consultation alone helped me feel more comfortable. After the hair cut i was so pleased with the outlook. It was better than any haircut i've ever had and it lasted for weeks. Since then i've been going to see martial and every time i leave feeling spoiled. Not only is he a fantastic stylist, but the entire staff is friendly and made me feel right at home. I could not have been more pleased.

Avoid this establishment at all costs. The head barber, Martial, aggressively pushed styles on me that my friends and family later told me were not flattering. I delicately conveyed my tastes, but he resisted, became flustered, and even raised his voice at me. Hello, I'm the customer! I have had no problems with high-end hairdressers in the past, and I have let them do their thing and watch the magic happen. However, this barber nods superficially (and condescendingly) and then experiments on you with narcissism to the extreme. It's probably better to grin and bear it if you don't want to get into an altercation with this guy. However, going along with a barber out of fear of a blowout is absurd for this cost. The assistants were very nice, though, and one even apologized to me for Martial's behavior.

I'm glad to see NY Mag chose Martial Vivot Salon Pour Hommes as Best Men's Salon. Martial absolutely is a master of the men's hair cut...you always come out looking extraordinary, and yet utterly yourself. His first question is always, "what do you want?" and then he makes it happen, only much better than you would have imagined. I've been a client for years and I can also say that he's a very real person, even though he is in charge of the hair of some of the most important men in New York. The salon is also super chic, and they treat you like a prince. Love this place. Highly recommended.

Really, NY Mag? Maybe my experience was a fluke, but this place totally screwed up my hair. Specifically, my hair starting falling out like crazy after getting it bleached here -- I was like a shedding animal! The barber condescendingly told me this was "normal," and I believed him given that this was my first experience with bleaching....but after a few sessions and gradual bald spots appearing on my head, I moved on. I now pay a third of the price at a modest salon and my hair is back to normal. Buyer beware.
