Went to Tosler Davis after hearing good things about the place. My boyfriend absolutely loved it and so do I.

Selected salon based on NYMag's review - it must have been from another era because Alan gave me a terrible hair cut and spent no time on my hair at all. He clocked in at just over 4 minutes. It's time for him to remember that he actually needs to work if he wants customers to come. Beth Ann does do nice highlighting.

Both Sean (color) and Allen (cut) (owners) seem to have reached the place where they feel above needing to give careful attention to detail or care for their clients. Arrogance and sloppy jobs are the result. On my last visit I asked Sean for very fine hair to be colored in the foils. He said he would comply, but after he finished I though my hair looked like it had stripes all over. He was sloppy and quick with the job. When he asked what I thought I said "The color is nice but I've been happier with smaller pieces." His reply was "I don't have to color your hair! I won't work any smaller." I've never been treated so rudely and with such arrogance. It is as if he said "I don't really care if you like your hair. I have other clients, go elsewhere." He was arrogant, insensitive, uncaring and downright rude. I'm appalled by his behavior and disgusted that I have to be reminded of such a terrible experience each time I look at my hair. I WILL NEVER GO BACK!

Whenever I am in NYC for business I always get my haircut here because I walk out feeling New York-y and hip.

I've been a client of Tosler & Davis for years, back before they opened up their own place. There's a reason why they are consistently featured in press like NY mag and the NYTimes--when you leave there, you look great. I went in for my pre-holiday cut and color today, and although it was a little hectic (they are verrrry busy these days) I still felt relaxed and got all the attention I wanted and emerged as a holiday hottie! Thanks guys! My one complaint is that Alan and Sean can't clone themselves--it is harder to get appointments with them these days, but the rest of the staff is great too. They are still the most talented--and best deal--for hair downtown.

I left John Frieda for here, looking for a good cut at a more relaxed salon closer to where I live. And I got the worst haircut I've ever gotten--at least since I was 15. Bad in every way: not what I asked for; wrong for my hair type; bulky, boxy layers... What more can I say? I'm so disappointed, and it's already so much shorter than I wanted how can I ask them to fix it? Perhaps I should have asked for Tosler himself. The junior stylist I got clearly has no clue what she's doing.

Best haircut of my life!
