Recently The Week offered a confused report on the film Across the Universe. After seeing it twice and about to see it once more, I came to the realization that the Beatles really were not great; rather it was their music and words that were great and this film proves it so. Jim Sturgess leads off the film with All my Loving sung with more heart than the Beatles original vocal. In a word this film is brilliant. With the entire repertoire of the Beatles, Julie Taymor and her fellow artist crafted a coherent story within the context of 33 Beatles songs. Beautifully sung, dynamically filmed and superbly edited, this films next step will surely be opening on Broadway in the near future. Three cheers for Across the Universe
