An unlikely friendship brings to life the creative force of the Chelsea Hotel and its artist residents

By mmo on 11/1/2011

  • Yes, I would go back!

The film maker sets out to document Bettina and her incredible story in the fabled Chelsea Hotel during its most prolific years, 60s & 70s. In the process, she finds herself drawn to her. A rare intimacy develops which exposes different dimensions in both the subject and the auteur. An incredible treat of a story!

A story of universality told through a quintessential New York character

By ahappyview on 10/28/2011

  • Yes, I would go back!

The story of Chelsea Hotel resident Bettina (the girl with Black Balloons) unfolds elegantly, unleashing the raw scent of the avant garde art scene of the 70s and 80s and reminding us how history is written, and what a life in pursuit of that one thing you really wanted is. Corinne told the story in a way that you just listened, like a neighbor's recount of her life story over afternoon tea. When the pot is emptied, a sense of monumentality gushes in while familiarity still lingers.
