Lost Goddess

Miss Williams is most effective in portraying the lost, tragic soul inside the hourglass of the most celebrated cinematic Dumb Blond of mid century Hollywood. In the brief moments on screen when "Marilyn" talks openly to the 23 year old (3rd assistant director of The Prince and the Showgirl), confiding in him her inner most longing for love, husband, home and family, Miss Williams luminous make-up free face clearly captures the deep sadness within her carefully, expertly, crafted love Goddess character....and at certain angles resembles the original pin-up more than I'd expected. In harsh contrast, when miss Williams is heavily made up, padded and tightly costumed as the screen icon and is directed to dance, vamp and be coyly seductive, her complete lack of resemblance is dreadfully clear and the film feels ( and looks) like a poor weekend TV special.The rest of the stellar cast, plot(?) and acting is mediocre at best. An undisguised, unapologetic P.R. effort to establish Miss Williams as a star to be reckoned with....so, in that regard, without her charms, "My week with Marilyn" would be instantly forgettable.
