Let's Get Real

"11th Hour" and like perspectives fail to realize that without the "rape of our environment" our way of life wouldn't exist. How earth friendly is the production of a movie or a magazine? It takes a ton of natural resources and fuel to create these things and get them to viewers. New York Magazine is printed on paper. Any use of paper contributes to the tearing down of Brazilian rain forests. Big business rapes the environment because each of us wants to maintain the lifestyle we have become addicted to. Who is giving up their Starbucks, their iPod, their flat screen TV and their New York Magazine? The only solution to our crisis requires individual "sacrifice", a word totally stricken from the American vocabulary. It requires me to stop subscribing to New York Magazine. The problem is not big companies raping our environment and creating global warming. The problem is the inability of Western society to give up the lifestyles we have become addicted to. Who is willing to live with less? A documentary on what we are each sacrificing...there wouldn't be anything to film.
