This has to be one of the worst restaurants I have been to in a long time. The decor is actually decent with candles and dim lighting. The food is absolutely awful! I got the chicken and it has the foot attached and fried with it. If I had gone to a chinese restaurant that's understandable.. but not in a place like this! It didnt taste good either. The pasta is also awful. They really need to re-vamp the entire menu. I hope I never have to go there again since there are so many better restaurants in the area. I would even get street food instead of this.

I have never had such a horrible experience with the staff at a restaurant or bar. The bouncer is clearly on a power trip. I was absolutely horrified that someone would treat patrons with such blatant disrespect. I will never go here again. I wish there was a "0" rating.

Sunday night, 9pm. 04/30/12. I ordered the $35 NY strip steak, medium rare. It was overcooked. I don't like to send things back but Its nearly 40 dollars and I work in a steak house- what they gave me was not acceptable. The manager appears table-side, informs me that a hot pink center is in fact medium rare and that he didn't understand what it was i was requesting. He was playing dumb, asked if I wanted it cooked more....erm no, I told you it was over cooked...why are you making this weird/uncomfortable? His attitude was condescending even if I was wrong about the steak (which I must stress I wasn't) the professional thing to do would be to take the food away and bring me back something I am going to be happy with- its not a $100 piece of meat for gods sake, have some tact, some class. Its just disgusting that this whole conversation was even happening. I realize that if they don't understand how a medium-rare steak should be cooked then the chances of me actually getting a the steak cooked right was slim and I really didn't want to go through that whole charade again. So I tell the waiter to cancel the order. He says ok. My wife finishes her sea bass, we ask for the bill. The bill arrives and the steak is still on there.You are going to make us be those customers again - we call the waiter ask him to remove the steak from the bill at this point the manager arrives at the table with another steak and places it on top of our bill. I wish I hadn't be so nice about it all.

The first thing we were told when we sat down was that the best of the 4 items on the Prix Fixe (only available) menu was gone. Buzzkill. The food we ordered was lukewarm, mediocre and slow to arrive. The service was seriously lacking--aside from the waiter asking if we'd like anything else as our food was served by the kitchen staff, we weren't checked on once. I don't know what my tip was for. The only communication we did have was that we were freezing because of the staff continuously opening the door to the fire escape to go outside to smoke and ignore the customers. Shortly thereafter (in the middle of our main course) the bus boy started breaking down the surrounding tables and carrying them out the open door, destroying the ambiance and further flooding the room with cold February air. Needless to say, we asked for the check and our mandatory dessert to go. We will not be going back anytime soon, especially with Pastis a few footsteps away. Restaurants shouldn't be allowed to charge 'meatpacking' prices and have 'meatpacking' attitudes without delivering 'meatpacking' quality. Unfortunately 5 Ninth did just that.

I took my wife here for her birthday last week. The staff sensed it was a special occasion for us, and rose to the occasion. Sat in the 2nd fl dining room, it was full enough but not packed. Waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. My wife i can be picky about her white wine but loved each glass she was poured. I appreciated the Duvel on tap. We split the Octopus appetizer, which was delicious and plenty for two. I had the Diver Scallops, which many places don't get right, but these were perfect. My wife really enjoyed the Duck Breast. Service was just right - not in our face but always there when we wanted them to be. This is one of the quieter places in the district, which we really appreciated, and the historic building is one you could walk around and marvel at for hours.

I was surprised not to see much reviews for this restaurant, because this place is great! I have a few friends who count this place among their favorites specifically for their food. The decor is superb at 5 Ninth, so much that I've approached them to host my wedding reception. We look forward to their service, great food, and wonderful atmosphere.
