This place is one of the best places I have ever been. Great visual and layout, great food, great service, simply great everything. It is that kind of places that if we go once we don't stop visiting. Perfect it is the best way to describe it.
A Monopoly in the Neighborhood but a good standard

There's not a lot of competition around the Hudson Square area so 508 can really set their prices. If you don't want to go as divy as the Ear Inn, don't feel like Giorgione, and want better food than Turks and Frogs Tribeca - 508 is a great alternative. The food is pretty darn good and the service even better. Jsut a little pricey for what it is... Reliable neighborhood spot with a casual feel.

Went in this week and the 3 of us were more than satisfied. Another reviewer mentions their Swiss Chard Nudi -- this is now a Rutabaga Nudi which we ordered and liked very much. Great flavor and good textures, with the pasta that they make themselves. A very cheese-y meal as we also went for the fondue and the truffled mac & cheese. Bother were better than one would could expect. Mussels also were substantial and tasty. Good wines. Check it out.
Great food, checkered service

Upon recommendation from a friend, I ate here Wednesday night with my date. The food was great, we especially liked the tapas menu and loved the octopus. The downside was the service. Our waiter was slow and seemed as though he weren't enthusiastic about his job while our drinks were brought without the use of a tray. After our plates were cleared, our waiter didn't even wipe our table which had pools of oil and crumbs from our plates. We might have ordered dessert if we could stand sitting at the dirty table. The woman who took our wine order was great, she knew exactly what my date wanted just be telling her what kind of taste she liked in her wine. But is not enough to make up for our lousy waiter.

I booked a table at 508 for an anniversary celebration with my boyfriend and had high hopes after reading exuberant reviews. We opted to order a bunch of small plates. First came oysters and honeyed ricotta on crostini - both were fresh and delicious, so I had high hopes. The poblano pepper was filled with so much chewy meat it felt like a bomb in my stomach. The yuca with spicy aioli was overly salty with globs of orange mayo. The chicken livers with onion marmalade on crostini tasted like it had been mixed with tons of sugar. The service was just ok - while the waiter was sweet, he also came by our table 3 times within 6 minutes to take our drink order, then needed to be asked twice to clear the table. Would not go back, mostly because the food was not worthwhile.
