You Can Do Better!!!

The food is not bad, not at all. The Peking duck is quite good but its better at other places in the city... The scallion pancakes are quite good... but there is better. The barbequed ribs is good but... you guessed it... you can do better! I suppose what you can NOT do better on is the scene, usually not to be associated with chinese restaurants. Still... my two biggest problems are that a chef of this caliber didn't even bother to investigate what authentic, high quality chinese cuisine is all about... the menu sadly reflects boring and ultimately 100% AMERICAN chinese options like hot and sour soup and lemon chicken. Secondly, the true measure of excellent Chinese food is the ability to make prepare fresh fish that is only just cooked. To overcook fresh fish, why in ancient China you could lose your head for that! So its not bad... but he could have and should have done better!
Not as good as the hype

The decor is clever but poorly executed and outmoded, the lighting is poor, the food fussy (although the prawns were good) and generally disappointing. The service was excellent, but overall the experience left much to be desired.

The overall experience is good. The food is delicious, but nothing spectacular. I couldn't help myself but think of the many places I could get the same food in Chinatown for a fraction of the price. I guess one has to be ready to expect to pay for the atmosphere and creative presentation and not a culinary taste experience.
Great Design and Service

What a beautiful space! You couldn't ask for a better looking, more modern, stylish place to sip on a drink and people-watch. While certainly pricey, the food is generally very good (order the cold noodles "66" but avoid the "Crackling Pork" dish!) The service is knowledgeable and entertaining - and the uniforms (by Vivienne Tam) are so cute. Definitely go for a fun night out!

Jean Georges has found his way: good food and horrible service... Here the food is really great and much better than most chinese restaurants in NY - dumplings, black cod, duck are just amazing. But why do we have to deal with the attitude?? They always make you wait 15 to 45 minutes... courses arrive at the table in random order... don't say anything because this is the way it works, you are not the customer! Would be a great place with some savoir-faire...

Food is very good, I personally advise the Cod fish. Funky atmosphere and good service. Put it on the list of good newer date places.
Dining Destination Must

While usually not a fan of chinese food, and after hearing negative reviews, I was skeptical to make a trip to 66. I can honestly say that I was pleasantly suprised! I had made 10pm dinner reservations and was promptly seated upon my arrival. Our server quickly took our drink orders while we looked over the menu. We chose the potato scallion pancakes to start. A must for anyone who goes! The menu is family style and the portions were all good size. We had the steamed shrimp and foie gras dumplings which were outstanding, the lobster e-fu noodles and the blackened cod which was also good. The value, the food and the ambiance were terrific and I am anxioulsy planning my next trip back. Anyone that has read previous unfavorable posts should, just like I did, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Definitely not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but the selections were generally more creative. I think the portions were quite generous...we were really hungry and still couldn't finish anything we ordered. The crispy tofu was the hit of our night. Hint from the waiter--it's fried (!). Dessert wasn't magnificent and the shrimp and foie gras dumpling has terrine foie gras inside. Gross!
Metro-modern Chinese restaurant

The TriBeCa version of Chinese cuisine, with delicious (if somewhat Americanized) Asian dishes served in a gorgeous, sleek space. Courteous and eclectic staff. Attracts a fun, hip, downtown crowd.
